Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too long to ship, dead chicks UPDATE I have lost 7 total now out of 10 chicks. Not happy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too long to ship, dead chicks Ordered the 10. Opened the box to see 3 chicks up and about. Nursed as many back to health as possible, and 5 are doing well, 1 is questionable, and 4 have died. Nothing against Hoover hatchery, but Wed-Sat is too long for 10 chicks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arrived happy and healthy They arrived reasonably fast, and all are happily chirping and moving about. Of course the first several weeks are key, but they are doing fine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is so fun! Received all ten chicks exactly a week after I ordered them. I was little worried after reading other reviews about losing some, but we were fortunate with this batch to have all ten happy and healthy. Now comes the truly fun part of trying to figure out which breeds we received! Already love all of these little girls!

When ordering unsexed chicks what is ration of male to female ...want a rooster to go with hens but don't want to order 10 males

Asked by: dogpatchMama
Per our Hoover's Hatchery, over the long course of time, birds typically lay about 50% male and female chicks. Any one order could be heavy on one or the other, but it would be highly unusual for an order of 10 straight run to be either all male or all female.

Is there a minimum of how many different breeds you get? For example am I likely to get at least 4 different breeds?

Asked by: Pheigle
Yes, there will be 3-4 breeds minimum and generally more for this period of time

do i need to give any type of shot when i get them

Asked by: Ricky 123
Chicks do not require shots when received. They will be from good genetic stock and if raised appropriately do well in every environment

Chicks are available all year online and in store mid-February to the end of April and then again late July to the end of September in stores.
