Sought after for their darker "chocolate" brown eggs, this beautiful breed is hardy, quiet and doesn't mind being confined. Curious, friendly and active, this dual-purpose breed makes not only a beautiful addition to your egg basket but also to your flock! Their most striking feature is the double laced feather pattern that only occurs on the hens. Hens begin to lay around the 6-8 month age and are known to be good winter layers. Barnevelders thrive either in confinement or in a free-range environment.Guarantee of 90% accuracy on all sexed poultry.

Beautiful, friendly and healthy chicks

I purchased 10 BARNEVELDER chicks. It took a couple weeks before they got shipped. But, you can’t rush chicks from their eggs 🥰
All 10 arrived healthy and very active.
They are now 2 weeks old and are getting their wing feathers and some are starting to get their tail feathers.

Good birds, just not a good line

Chicks arrived quickly and healthy, however, after 6 months we have come to the conclusion they are RIR Barnevelder mixes. Their feathering pattern is almost non-existant, we have one bird showing patchy double lacing, one bird showing patchy single lacing, and the rest are barely not RIR. If they had zero lacing, I would assume it was just a mix up, but I'm convinced at this point the hatchery just didn't preserve the line. The birds are pretty and friendly, but might as well be BYM. Egg production is good, leaning more toward RIR than Barnie. We have a couple speckled layers which is nice, and a one darker brown layer. The rest of the 6 hens are a medium brown.
They're good birds, just not what I ordered.
