GEARWRENCH 2 pc. 1/4 in. and 3/8 in. Drive 120XP Dual Material Flex Handle Teardrop Ratchet Set

I have many Gearwrench ratchets. I have loved them all. I picked up this set on Black Friday for an amazing deal. Love the compact head, but the measurements don’t tell the whole picture. The anvil and how the socket fits on it due to the ball detent pushes the socket out about 4mm from the face of the ratchet. The photo shows the 90t and 120xp with identical length sockets and where the ball detent locates the socket on the anvil. It is like the 120xp uses a small extension as the anvil! Seems crazy that they did all the work to redesign the head to make it smaller and then do this to push the socket further out. I am betting they used the same anvil on both the old and current 120xp to keep parts supply simpler. The Icon G2 ratchet I own has a much larger head but because of the anvil design its effective height is the same. I prefer the 120xp still to it. Gearwrench please update the anvil design allowing socket to sit closer to the face. Then release a refresh kit with the updated design. The 90t anvil is also much tighter. No play in any direction. The 120xp is a little more loose like many other ratchets. I think this might be inherent when you compare the screw down plate on 120xp vs 90t with a snap ring holding plate in place around the whole perimeter. Trade off is not having a sealed mechanism on 90t. Which is perceived as a weakness for people who are not wanting to clean it out every couple years. I would choose the snap ring but it is great to have both options. For me the 90t is better choice over all. If the anvil was redesigned I would choose 120xp. The 120xp here is 15.5” long and 90t is not offered in that length. Update anvil please!

Love these ratchets especially the 1/4 ratchet. The flex heads on them are firm and won’t wobble into a different position easily. The grip handles on them also great material allows you have an amazing grip on them. In tight spots the teeth and these are amazing to get those bolts to turn.

These flex heads are a great addition to my service truck. Added with the smooth gearing and soft grip handle, they fit great into my arsenal of tools. The small degree for head rotation is really nice for the hard to reach places I find myself in many times. Having the 3/8 and the 1/4 option in a solid foam container is also very nice.

Super great quality! All my gearwrench brand tools last me an extremely long time! They never let me down! They are the only brand i purchase now! They're not the lightest tool but they're definitely not heavy either! Excellent quality!!!
