Sometimes a chain comes up one link short of the right fit, and that's where an offset link solves the problem. Standard roller chain can only be adjusted in two-link increments, but an offset link, sometimes called a half-link, fills that single-pitch gap. The size range mirrors what's available in connecting links, so finding a match is manageable. Keep in mind that the two sides of an offset link are not shaped identically, which puts a bit more stress on the joint than a standard connecting link does. That makes offset options a better fit for lighter-duty applications.
