Alfahay comes in a 50 pound bag and is the closest thing to fresh cut alfalfa. Alfahay is a NON-GMO alfalfa that is fermented with apple cider vinegar. Alfahay is a 50% moisture product and will be moist. Alfahay is for horses, cattle, pigs, deer, goats, sheep, birds, and exotics. Unlike other feeds that are dried, Alfahay is cut and packed with its natural moisture. This locks in all the fresh nutrition of the plant. Alfahay then undergoes a fermentation process after being bagged to produce beneficial yeasts and bacteria. That's why we call it "Probiotic Alfalfa In A Bag." Yeast Cultures will be white, circular shaped, and are GREAT for your animals. Please see photos. Some animals may take longer to become accustomed to Alfahay while others will eat it right away. They are all different - be patient and give them time to investigate it.

- Note: After opening your bag of Alfahay, we recommend feeding it within 7-10 days; if you cannot feed it within that time frame, store it in a cool, dark place; you can also put the bag into a large plastic tub with a lid, this will help extend the life of an open bag

Alfahay is to be used for the portion of the animals roughage intake. The normal intake per day of Alfahay is very different from animal to animal. Age, condition, workload, and other feed intakes will factor into how much Alfahay the animal eats per day. Start by feeding 1 pound per hundred weight per day to horses and equivalent sized animals. Feed 2 pounds per hundred weight per day to smaller animals like deer and goats. Gradually (over 7-14 days) increase the quantity until you feel the desired condition of the animal is achieved. Alfahay is not to be used as the only source of feed.

So happy to see TSC carrying Alfahay!

I love this product for my dairy goats! I see a lot of reviews stating the product was moldy and there was moisture in the bag. The hay is supposed to have moisture and the "mold" is actually little yeast colonies from the fermentation process that are supposed to be in the product. AlfaHay's customer service is top notch for helping consumers understand this. I would recommend reaching out to them with questions or concerns.

the alfalfa Alfahay 50lb. bag, was so wet that it had mold throughout it. Also the quality was comparable to straw that had gone through a chipper. The color of this product was yellow & brown. My animals wouldnt touch it, even when i tried mixing it w my dry alfalfa.

This is an absolutely fantastic product and I couldn’t recommend a product more for a health horse feed option. The problem is ALL but one bag at the store had holes and no employees were concerned and would sell this to a costumer. This product must be feed within a few days of opening as once it’s exposed to air it will start AS LISTED ON THE MANUAL ON THE TS WEBSITE which even mentions tiny holes. I tried to tell this to the employees and three out of four employees I dealt with at the store were hateful just from me trying to inform them about this product, so I don’t think Tractor Supply is a good supplier for this product.
