Q&As

1 - 1 of 1 Question

Q: What or where is best place to hang this product ! Deep in a tree ! Out on a visible hanger ? How high off ground??? Thank you !?

1 Answer
  • A: Place the feeder out of the wind in a protected area near shrubs, trees, or birdhouses. To help avoid squirrels about 10ft from fences and railing is best. About 5-6 feet off the ground is ideal. Also helpful is being near a clean water source like a birdbath, fountain, etc if possible.

Awesome Feeder

I bought this to see if It attracts any new birds and the American goldfinches love it! Several get on it at once and eat on it off and on all day long. After a few weeks you would think the sock would be empty but it’s still 3/4 full. For the price this is such an easy and inexpensive way to feed and attract more varieties of birds. I was worried about it getting wet but after 2 rain showers it’s still going strong.

We love birds at our house and this is the perfect size to use out in the yard actually in the tree branches. We have several stand alone feeders but this allows the birds to stay in the trees closer to safety. It is a really nice"sock" feeder.

Total flop

Sorry, but I had a terrible experience with this food sack I hung it in an array of other foods - sunflower seed and suet Suet . Not a single seed was eaten from the bag. I finally poured it into the other feeders and on the ground.

Wasted Seed Gets Blown Everywhere

Finches kept the feeder busy. However, the mesh was so large to enable the birds to access the nyjer seed, that ANY movement or handling of the sock - wind, rain, birds clinging to and moving around on the sock - caused a great amount of the seed to simply fall out on the ground or get blown onto anything in the vicinity - I'd estimate at least a good 1/3 to 1/2 of the seed wasted. In addition, the wind blew a good amount of seed onto and inside our heat pump, located 4 feet away - to the point I had to remove the condenser fan and vacuum out all the seed that had fallen inside it. Be careful where you hang the sock, and be prepared to go thru a lot of seed, if this is the option you pick for a finch feeder.

Yes, I recommend this product.
