This durable, hanging bird feeder features hunter green powder-coated metal top and bottom with a black powder-coated mesh tube and holds up to 7 lb. of a combination of Nyjer and mixed seed. Fill the small mesh side with (thistle) seed to attract goldfinches, purple finches, siskins and more. Fill the large screen side with a variety of mixed birdseed to attract chickadees, cardinals, nuthatches, and more. Q: Does the bottom part fill with seed also? I don’t want extra seed laying around. I have an infestation of sparrows! If this isn’t a good feeder which one is to prevent them. I’m tried hanging shiny things including CDs. Yell. HELP me Please!

Q: Will this bird feeder keep the Sparrows off it? I'm in the market for a good feeder that these darn sparrows can't get to. In less than 5 hrs my current whole bird feeder is empty.

Q: Is this feeder too heavy for a metal standing hook that fits in the ground.  Does this feeder attract cardinals, etc.

  • A: With a 7 LB capacity it may be too heavy for some hooks, depending on the size of the shepherd rod and how it is stabilized in the ground. Some shepherd rods have the ability to hold up to 25 lbs., but it will vary on the size and stability of the rod. Cardinals will be attracted if the correct feed is used. The feeder can hold Nyjer, Black Oil Sunflower, Cracked, Cor, Safflower, Sunflower and Mixed seed, all of which will attract Cardinals.

Broke in first week. Squirrel knocked it on the ground and the bottom broke. Poor quality.

Have had this feeder about 6 weeks now. Is just as I hoped it would be. Sturdy feel to it, seems to be very easy for the birds to access and I love the capacity. The reason for 3 stars is it isn't any phenomenal feeder, it does just what it purports to do. That doesn't exceed expectations and deserve more than a middle of the road rating.

Yes, I recommend this product.
