Rated 4 out of 5 by from Finches love this feeder Like all finch feeders, a lot of nyjer/finch seed falls out if you just pour it in. I fill mine in a bucket, and then put the seed that falls out back in. Some people use a cardboard type sleeve that they can put around the barrel of the feeder just while filling feeder to reduce seed waste. Finches love this feeder! I have pine siskens and goldfinches all over these, all the time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Love the dome, Hate the bowl! Bought this on September 1, 2018 thinking that the dome would help protect the nyjer seed and goldfinches. Problem is, nyjer seed is pretty fine and will come out of the screens while birds are eating and they drop the shells after they get the heart and, well, gravity makes them fall straight down. I hoped that Stoke/Droll Yankee had designed the base to account for this with the drainage holes. As you can see in the photo, they did not. When I contacted the company, they suggested that they had other customers with similar issues and they had suggested trying different seed because what they were using was too small. The customer never got back to them so they figured that was the answer. Yeah, right. Maybe I could have spooned out the used seed, but that's not what I want to do. I almost didn't post here, but thought it might help someone. I've used different brands of nyjer seed and it falls out while filling the tubes. Part of the deal. I don't have my receipt so I can't return it for an old fashioned plastic tube or one similar to my older feeder in the picture. I might try cutting the bottom, but probably not. Just a warning, buyer beware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great feeder! I've had one for about 2 months and just ordered two more. No sooner did I get back in the house from hanging it and there were several finches on it. Now I can hardly keep it filled. I don't like bright colored feeders, so I sanded the top and bottom (both removable) and painted them hammered brown with Rustoleum. I've had no issues with the top or bottom coming off. Very sturdy - I've dropped it several times, as I fill my feeders in the dark and tend to be clumsy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Feeder I normally don't take the time to write reviews but I think this deserves one. I've had one of these feeders for several seasons. The finches love it and I have had NO PROBLEMS with it. Over time it has saved me money because I'm no longer replacing the cloth socks every few months. My Mom was interested in getting rid of the cloth sock too so I looked for another feeder like mine. I was shocked to see the poor ratings. Mine has never come apart. The screen is metal. Guess what when thisle gets wet it clumps just like the socks. Give it a shake and your good to go. Trust me this is a great feeder! I did pick one up at TSC for Mom. There's two things I like better on the new models. 1. The cage has a protective coating on it. This might make it last longer. Although I've had no problems with the old one deteriorating. 2. My old one is a drab olive green. The new one is bright yellow. I'd think the finches might be drawn to the bright yellow.
