It started rough, but Hoover's Hatchery is AMAZING

We placed our order for chicks in early January. The order shipped and we were a little nervous about them shipping in such cold weather (lows in our area were high teens - low 20's). As soon as we got the call from the post office we ran down and picked them up. We hurried home and tried to get the chicks warm. When we opened the box we found 4 dead birds, 4 weak birds and 2 active birds. Although we tried our best with the remaining 6 chicks, the 4 weak birds ended up dying within 4 hours of receiving them. I immediately called Hoover's Hatchery, because that's what the 48 hr guarantee said to do (641-323-6100), and their customer service rep was very understanding and kind. She told me to wait the full 48 hours to see if the remaining 2 birds died, because its not normal to have that many birds die. Thankfully the other two birds lived. When I called Hoover’s after the 48 hr waiting period they got me set up to receive an entirely new shipment of birds, that would ship on Wednesday of the next week. My only complaint was that I couldn't get the new shipping information via email, I was told to call and request the tracking information after they shipped. Thursday morning rolled around and I was getting ready to call in and request the shipping information and I got a call from the post office that there was a shipment of chicks there for me. We were even more nervous for this 2nd shipment because there was a cold snap and we were seeing sub 0 temps at night and highs in the low teens in Utah. Luckily we were home and could go pick up the new chicks. Right away I knew this was a better batch of birds because I could hear them from the waiting area of my post office. We got them home and found all birds thriving. We were even surprised by finding 12 birds and not 10 (which I like to think of as great customer service from Hoover’s). It’s a week later and all birds are doing great and growing like crazy. I can’t say enough nice things about Hoover’s Hatchery. They were a pleasure to work with and they were timely in getting us our new birds. No one wants to receive dead chicks or watch them slowly die, but in the end we ended up with exactly what we wanted. New birds to replace our old flock.

It was a terrible experience; the shipping date did not match the tracking number, and the package arrived very poorly covered. Consequently, the chicks arrived weak and cold—three of them have died.

No, I do not recommend this product.
