French Black Copper Marans Baby Chicks are beautiful, rare, feathered footed birds that lay some of the darkest brown chocolate colored eggs of any breed. Quiet, gentle but active birds, these live baby chickens enjoy foraging and free ranging but also tolerate confinement well. Although these live baby chicks for sale are quite winter hardy, these egg laying chickens are not good winter layers. Hens may begin to lay around 8-9 months of age with their eggs being darkest and lightening slightly as they age. Friendly, docile and easily handled, these live chickens have a great nature, are not flighty or skittish. Hens do tend to be broody and if allowed to sit make good mothers. Some French chefs claim they are the most delicious eggs available and they are far superior in taste and quality. Not only will you have a beautiful flock adding this breed to your brood, your egg basket will also benefit from the beauty of the dark eggs.

Q: I purchased Copper Maran hens and Roos. I received the 1st of April 2022. They just started laying. The eggs however are very small bantam sized. I don’t think this is normal. Why would the eggs be so small?

- A: The first eggs that chickens lay are very often what they call "pullet eggs" They are very small almost fairy sized eggs. As the chicken matures you will have larger eggs laid. Most are laying full sized eggs by the 3rd month of lay or earlier.3 years agoHelpful?
Q: We bought 4 French Back Copper Marans from TSC July 9, 2021. One turned out to be a rooster and the others pullets. The pullets have been laying for quite some time now, however, the color of their eggs is not much darker than a Rhode Island’s egg.

I order on Saturday, they were at my post office at 8 AM Thursday, 11 beautiful healthy chicks , I have never had a hatchery work this great, thank you, I would recommended this hatchery over all others

The Black Copper Marans we bought from TSC were a disappointment. They are not as large as the Marans we bought from a breeder and the egg color is less than a 4 on the egg color scale. Disappointed!
