Furosemide Oral Solution is a fast-acting medication used to treat pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs) in horses, cats, and dogs. It is also effective in managing certain electrolyte imbalances, such as elevated potassium or calcium levels. The solution is also sugar free. Sold in 60 mL bottles. How it Works
Furosemide works by increasing the amount of salt and water that the kidneys remove from the blood. This extra salt and water is then passed out through the urine.
Special Precautions
- This drug has been shown in lab animals to present fetal risk. It is also found in breastmilk.
- Humans who are hypersensitive to sulfonamides could also be hypersensitive to this drug. This testing has not been repeated in animals.
- Animals who have diarrhea or vomiting should be closely monitored as they could develop electrolyte imbalances that may be exacerbated by this medication.
- This drug should be used with caution in dehydrated animals, animals with diabetes mellitus, or animals with decreased liver function.
- Furosemide should not be administered to pets who cannot produce urine (anuric) or those with severe electrolyte depletion or electrolyte imbalances.
Immediately contact your closest emergency animal hospital or vet.
