Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier for Medium & Large Rooms

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After using this dehumidifier for a little over a month, I can say it’s very effective, as well as quiet. We have it in the basement, and it has dried up the wet areas, cycling on and off very quietly. Very happy with it’s effectiveness.. As per the instructions, I have done the maintenance cleaning at two week intervals. My only concern is that I’m somewhat nervous about the necessary pressure required to exert on certain plastic pieces in order to disassemble and reassemble the parts for cleaning. I’m being very careful, but realize that repeated stress on this type of plastic will eventually result in the plastic tabs and pieces snapping off. I was glad to find the video on your website about removing the filter from the casing for cleaning,and although that works, it is no way as easily done as the video portrays. Much more stress on the plastic occurs on one side than is apparent in your video. In order to clean the water chamber, it’s necessary to remove the carrying handle, and that effort is another stress point on the plastic. Once the handle is off, the lid can be lifted off, but this is somewhat awkward . The construction of the inner part of the water chamber is so compartmentalized that actually cleaning it would be nearly impossible, so this regular maintenance cleaning, I feel, is really important, because if it ever gets dirty, it would be nearly impossible to clean. Reassembly of the water chamber requires putting the handle back on, which requires probably the most stress on the plastic of all— picture yourself forcing a movement while in clear expectation of the sound of plastic snapping off. So, in summary the effectiveness of the dehumidifier is great so far, but my confidence in the longevity of the plastic fasteners is low, and I foresee duct tape in the future, as well as carrying the water chamber across the basement somehow without the aid of a handle. If the plastic proves stronger and more resilient than I expect, I will update this review.

Received this unit as a direct replacement from Frigidaire as the prior model failed within the 1-year manufacturer's warrantee period. This new unit has only been in service for about one week as of this writing. So far, it's working fine but time will tell. i must say however how truly impressed I am with Frigidaire's response to quickly replace the failed unit. No nonsense. Quick and easy with minimal overhead to customer. Nice job! Very impressed.
