With the American Farm Works 0.1-Joule 5-Mile Solar-Powered Electric Fence Energizer, your fence can have power from anywhere. This fence charger runs for up to 2 weeks without sunlight and is powered by an internal rechargeable battery. With 0.10 output joules, this energizer will support animals and livestock such as cattle, horses, pigs and goats. This charger energizes up to 5 miles of fencing, although if using poly products, you should expect about half of the power. The more material along the fence line, the harder the energizer must work to pass voltage through the line. To prepare this electric fence charger for first use, place the unit in full sun for 3 days in the off position. After this charging period, the unit is ready to use and install. Set the charger's patented mounting bracket onto a T-post or wood post. This charger includes a post-mount adapter. Adjustable mounting options and a slim design allow this charger to rotate 360 degrees to face the sun's changing directions. The season guide will help you choose the perfect angle. Good but slowly declining in effectiveness

Worked great at first but started losing its charge about 4 weeks in. It’s so low now that I can grab the fence with my hand and it doesn’t hardly give a shock. Checked ground rods (3) and connections and all seem to be exactly how it was when I originally hooked everything up. This was a replacement of the first one I bought that didn’t work at all right out of the box. TS swapped it out for me and I made sure to get the warranty. Getting ready to add another section of wired up fence on another part of the property and not sure if I’ll use this same brand. For the record it’s only powering about 250 feet of fence with 6 corners and 3 gate attachments.

It works but water easily gets inside

I like it, even for as low power as it is, it gave a good zap. The issue i have is the build quality. I had it only a week or so and it drizzled a few days and I went to move it to a different location and I noticed it had a lot of water inside sloshing around. It has to be where the solar panel on the bottom meets the case, it has a little lip and they either didn't put a gasket or seal or it is just poorly made. When I shook it to get the water out, water came out of multiple areas so it wasn't just that one spot but that is where the majority of the water had to have gone into.
No, I do not recommend this product.

BEWARE of this product!

There is no manual. I've spent over an hour trying to find the manual for the American Farm Works 5 mile Solar Electric Fence Controller. This should be an easy download and printing task. The QR code provides a very small guide where the pages are connected. It can not be enlarged and the small print on the two strips of connected pages is worthless - too small to read. I went to both the American Farm Works website and Tractor supply website. There I faced the prospect of downloading an app that would supposedly print out the manual. Why is it not just a simple PDF file to print out. I do not trust downloading an app onto my computer with no knowledge if it contains a computer virus, etc. The reviews for this product are very mixed - others were not able to download the manual, many complained that the product did not work or failed within a short period of time, another person indicated that the warranty was not honored even though it was not expired. I am returning this product to Tractor Supply. There are too many RED FLAGS. Beware!
