What to Know Before Driving a Wood Fence Post

To build wood fencing the right way, you’ll need to dig holes for its posts that are one- third to one-half their height above ground. If you live in an area with high winds, or if you have sandy or frost heave-prone soil, you may have to dig deeper ones. You should set posts six to eight feet apart, generally, although that can vary depending on the type of fence, its height and your local climate and ground conditions. The taller the fence, the closer the spacing should be for stability.
