Frequently Asked Questions About Shut-Off Valve
Shut-Off Valve
Shut-off valves are crucial components in your plumbing or fluid control system. They are designed to stop or regulate the flow of water, gas or other liquids when needed. Tractor Supply carries shut-off valves, all built for performance and durability. Use them with our other valves to build out a complete flow-control setup.
Flow Control You Can Count On
Shut-off valves give you a way to control, reduce or completely stop the flow of water, gas or other fluids within a system, making them essential for maintenance, emergencies and everyday operation. By simply turning or adjusting the valve, you have the power to isolate specific sections of plumbing or equipment without disrupting the entire system.
Our selection includes a variety of styles, sizes and materials, from easy-to-use ball valves to durable gate and globe valves. Each option is thoughtfully designed and engineered to meet the needs of residential, commercial and industrial applications.
Angle and Straight Body Styles
Two valve body styles cover most residential supply pipe setups, and the layout of your line is what points you toward the right one. Angle stops work where the supply pipe exits the wall, bending the flow 90 degrees to meet the valve connection. Straight stops are built for lines that run straight up to the fixture without turning. Both styles use a handle to open or close the line and come in sizes to fit standard supply connections in most homes.
Inlet and Outlet Connection Types
Inlet type is determined by the supply line coming out of your wall or floor, and each connection method works differently. Compression inlets use a small brass ring called a ferrule that cinches around the pipe as you tighten the nut, no soldering required. A Female Iron Pipe (FIP) inlet threads directly onto a stub-out, the short male-threaded pipe section already in place at the wall. Sweat inlets require solder and are used with copper pipe, while chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) inlets bond to plastic pipe using solvent cement. Outlet connections typically have a 3/8-in. outside diameter (OD), which fits the supply lines of most sinks and toilets.
