Rope diameter and wheel size must match for a pulley to perform well under load. A wheel that's too small forces a heavier rope into a tight arc through the groove, and that repeated bending wears the rope down quickly. Snatch blocks solve a different problem: the hinged side plate swings open, allowing the rope to be clipped in at any point along its run. Two sheaves in one frame, called a double-sheave configuration, increase mechanical advantage without adding a second attachment point to the rig.
