Q: Is there an after market lid or top for this

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your question. There isn’t a manufacturer-made lid or true aftermarket fitted top for the Rubbermaid BRUTE 100 gallon stock tank that we're aware of. Most customers use universal covers like tarps, cut plywood, or rigid foam insulation boards secured over the top depending on their use case.

Not sturdy enough

I bought this tank about ten years ago for my horses. I owned Rubbermaid tanks 20 years ago, and they were indestructible, holding up great even in Ohio winters when I had to break the ice out by pounding on the sides of the tank with a sledge hammer. This new tank was just not as sturdy, and when full of water starts bulging out and warping. Recently it started draining through a crack at one of the angles in the bottom (same place everybody else seems to have seen cracks). When my metal tank started leaking after six years, I MIG welded it back together and used it for another eight years (I had to leave it behind in California, and it still wasn't leaking), but repairing plastic is notoriously unreliable. If you just look at it as renting a tank for a few years, then it's not too expensive per year, but then you're left trying to figure out what to do with this giant chunk of useless plastic trash. It's a little big to put in the recycling bin. I just think the quality is not what it used to be, and given how many people are getting cracks, it's just not up to the task.

They break

I have bought 3 Rubbermaid 100 gal tanks this year and all 3 cracked wide open in the middle bottom opposite the drain plug. They where sitting on a wooden base and all of them did the same thing. I do have one that is 4 years old sitting on concrete no problems.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Our stock tank developed a slow leak from what appears to be a molding/casting defect despite being relatively new and very well cared for. The disappointing part wasn't just the defect—it was Rubbermaid's refusal to honor their 10-year warranty simply because I no longer had the original receipt. Most farmers and ranchers don't keep every receipt for a decade. I expected better support for a product that clearly failed due to a manufacturing issue, not misuse.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Didn't come with a drain plug even though it states on the description that the drain plug is included.. i brought this up to the store and then I was told to buy one then when I couldn’t find it I asked for help and they were trying to sell me a boat plug and then I corrected them and they told me they didn’t even have the kind of drain plug I needed
