This feeder is very well built and easy to put together. More practical than the hay bale rings since it keeps the bale off the ground. Can be used for any animals. Should last for many years to come.

Great concept, but not strong enough

Welds broke and legs collapsed. I liked the concept, but the strength is not there. Broke under pressure of hay bale, not because of horses. I would be willing to reconsider if they gave be a replacement that held up.

Best hay cradle ever!

These hay cradles are great!  We have horses and Longhorns and having the hay off the ground ensures that nothing is wasted!

Round bale

The item came rusted and bent, but after we were able fix it then it wasn’t bad. I do think it’s way over priced for how light it is.

Tarter is stretching the metal way to THIN

Tarter quality has really gone downhill. They are stretching their metal way to thin. The welds are weak. The entire unit is crazy light weight for $500.00… the horses push it all over the field - snow covered or grass. I am considering sinking a fence pole and tying the frame off to keep it in one place. . Last week they shoved it up against the electrified high tensile fence line. Our field is huge. We use haychix hay bags. Removing the empty hay bag is a challenge - there are two protruding bolts and nyloks that catch the net. Not a big deal? Unless the bag isn’t 100% empty or the net is twisted around the frame from normal feeding patterns. Then you lean awkwardly over the top of the frame or crawl under to unsnarl the net from the tube and protruding nylock. Not a big deal… but incredibly irritating - and when it’s hot, raining or 20 below zero blowing hard and the net is snow covered and frozen it’s a stupid flaw.. For an agricultural company providing feeders to farmers, equine professionals, etc - did they think none of us would notice? Why should I have to pull out the $5.00 roll of duct tape to modify a $500.00 round bale feeder? It is just a matter of time before the light weight tubing gets bent. The removable end has been pulled off numerous times - I have replaced the pins 4-5 times. Come spring we will most likely bolt it on permanently. Tarter builds equipment for livestock - they must realize the punishing environment. Livestock is not a polite bunch. I happened to find some Tarter gates I purchased about 20 years ago - we used them as temporary fencing next to a cattle run in… those monsters are rock solid after sitting in harsh environment for 20 plus years - not a dent anywhere … the paint is a bit faded but that’s it. Wish I had bought more back then. This cradle hay feeder is just fragile.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Overall good feeder

Overall, the feeder works great, but the removable side pins come out almost immediately after he cattle use it. I recommend bolting them on.
