With excellent flavor, a high concentration in antioxidants, and up to 20 lbs of olives a year... you truly can't go wrong with the Arbequina olive tree. The gray green foliage will stay green year round and you may see new growth in spring or fall. The trunk of the tree has dark brown bark that is attractive. We have a variety of sizes to choose from to fit your needs. This gorgeous fruit bearing tree will have long spindly branches and dark green leaves. Dainty white flowers appear in spring and will produce fruit. *Fruit production begins after 1 year in the ground*Does not ship to AK, AZ, CA, or HI
- The arbequina olive tree is a self-pollinating tree. This means that they do not need another olive cultivar nearby to cross pollinate and bear fruit. A single tree will be fine on its own.
- The Olea Europaea Arbequina can grow up to 20 feet tall and 15 feet wide at full maturity. If you plan to grow more than one of them, youll need to leave 15 to 20 feet of space between each full grown arbequina olive tree.
- With your harvest of arbequina olives, you may choose to make your own arbequina olive oil. The fruit of this tree has one of the highest concentrations of oil and makes excellent extra virgin olive oil that is highly aromatic. You need an olive press to make olive oil, but our sources say it isnt too hard. Arbequina olive oil can be used while cooking, just like any other olive oil. This variety is of a green color and has a slightly fruity fragrance.
- Absolutely! Arbequinas are known as table olives and require brining to eat. Theyre one of the most beloved varieties of olives because of their health benefits such as being high in monounsaturated fatty acids and oleic acids. Arbequina olives also reduce the risk of heart disease, and reduce oxidative stress. Arbequina olives are very flavorful and meaty. They can be used to make a variety of dishes including pastas and dips, but are also tasty on their own. Simply pop a few arbequina olives in your mouth for a tasty snack.
- Arbequina olive tree care is not too complicated for home gardeners! Olive trees require well-draining soil and no wet feet for the root system. If you are planting the olive plant into your landscape, examine the native soil for good drainage. They do not like alkaline soils. This tree prefers full sun to partial sunlight if growing the tree outside and has a high drought tolerance. They originate from the Mediterranean and growing conditions should be simulated to represent that with hot and dry conditions with slightly acidic soil.
- Be sure to pick a spot that drains easily or if planting your olive in a container choose one with drainage holes. They can be grown indoors as a small tree or house plant in a sunny spot in your home with at least 6 hours of sunlight. Indoor olive trees are not picky on the potting soil as long as it is well-draining. Usually, succulent and cactus potting soil will work wonders for your indoor plants. You can add Perlite to increase aeration and provide the roots with plenty of room to grow. Grows best across the United States in USDA growing zones 7-11.
- The Arbequina tree is a highly adaptable olive tree and can thrive in a variety of climates. This olive variety is semi-deciduous and will not drop its leaves unless in extremely low temperatures. It has a low cold tolerance. To prevent their silvery green leaves from falling at all, simply move the tree indoors during the winter months. Cannot withstand winter temperatures below 30 F. We always recommend to our customers to grow the potted olive trees outdoors as long as possible during spring, summer, and fall.
