I know it says stick to the product, but I'm going to review my entire Hoover's Hatchery experience. I ordered these guys by accident last spring and tried to cancel the item before shipment. Yes, I know a pain for everyone and since it was MY fault (I wanted hens not Roosters) I didn't complain, nor call back on my refund for the purchase. I get a call to notify me the chicks I ordered arrived at the post office, and the Hempbar males were not canceled and unfortunately one DOA. So after, I had 9 healthy Velociraptor/T-Rex looking roosters. I did get them to send a replacement for the deceased one because he was flat as a pancake, and they promptly sent a hen instead because of the mix up before. It was my fault so that was nice (the "Rooster fubar" not flatty mc flatterton that died). These are the sweetest LARGEST Roosters I've seen. This was our first attempt at livestock (shear brilliance here) 55 hens and 5 roosters now. Novice that I am, I wasn't aware Roosters are required for egg production. So the mistake turned into my golden egg! Eggs have been great for a first season, they have consistently produced 3-3.5 dozen a day and now have slowed to about 2-2.5 dozen a day. I did cull 4 of the roosters because I had too but I was absolutely surprised on meat. Very good meat bird. I have 10 Brahma hens that are separate from the big coop. They weren't producing so I moved a Rooster over. (Don't worry I looked up some recommendations on how to do that) within a week our first egg. From then on the egg laying increased to 6-8 a day. The Hempbar was introduced into the pen in 2 days and like I said 6 days or so an egg. I am thinking of actually doing another 10 Hempbar roosters for my broilers this year, and I'm definitely interested in 10 hempbar hens. Meat was great, temperament, hearty, gentle, and was easily socialized into a young existing hen flock. ALL my poultry has come from Hoover's Hatchery, and why I wanted to review that entire experience. Totaled ordered was 60 chicks various Hoover's Hatchery breeds ,10 were Hempbar Rooster chicks. I had 7 chicks die in transit or within 48 hours of a arrival (one being the Hempbar). They replaced these chicks immediately. It was obvious there was some that got chilled in transit or something because the rest in the shipments were thriving. We had incidents with predictors but the Hempbar were larger so they all survived. Overall, Hoover's Hatchery and all their poultry have been phenomenal. I also got two turkey in two mixed batches of chicks. We dressed one out for Thanksgiving at 35lbs and the other was dressed out at 27lb which I gave to another family for Thanksgiving. I have been giving eggs to everyone. Mail, all delivery drivers, my SIL etc. Can't wait for some Hempbar hens!

Ordered 10 female, and I don't know what I recieved. I have had several different auto-sexing breeds of chickens over the years and these do not qualify. Was suprised that they were offering Hampbars (not spelled Hambars, obviously their own version), and thought I'd buy some and compare to Rhodebars, Legbars, Welbars ect. In the box were 2 chicks with stripes, (should be the females), 3 with lighter down, and faint stripes, ( could be either male, or female), and 5 chicks that are mostly yellow with no stripe at all. Which are the males? I sent a picture and was told they were all female by a Hoovers rep. The website says "color" sexable...duh, auto-sexing breed. I asked what color do male chicks hatch out? No response. Did they ship me mostly males, and charge me for females, and don't want to refund? Or these are not the auto-sexing cross that they are claiming. Still trying to resolve this issue through Tractor Supply, and Hoovers, but being blown off. Buyer Beware!
