Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good welder for a novice welder A very solid welder and well worth the investment. My only criticism is the gap berween the feed roller and the electrode cable allows for the wire to misfeed and bend. I haven't bought any mixed gas yet, but will give more feedback when I do.

Asked by: JOE L JR
Yes this unit can be powered from a generator. A 7000 watt continuous would be required to achieve max output of 190 amps and 5000 watt to achieve rated output of 130 amps.

I know nothing about welding but interested in it for hobby, and setting up tagets for gun range. Would you recommend this welder for a newbie?

Asked by: Johnph31
This would be a great unit for someone just starting out. It will also grow with you as you tackle larger jobs or projects.

This is a simple beginners welder as easy as they come. I find I have to keep the gun close to the weld when using gas outside. Are the parts for this welder made in the U.S?

Asked by: Oldackonoak
Duty cycle is 15% at 190 amps.

Is this ready out of the box to weld Aluminum. Minus the Argon.

Asked by: Dwest
The Hobart stock(SKU) number 500554001-which includes the Spoolrunner 100, will do aluminum with the addition of aluminum wire and 100% Argon gas. Hobart stock(SKU) number 500554 does not come with the Spoolrunner 100.

How big of a generator do you need to run this.I build fence and would want to take it to the field

Asked by: Pony boy
To operate at full capacity you would want a 7000 watt continuous rated generator and to operate at rated output of 130 amps you would need a 5000 watt continuous rated generator.
