This benchtop jointer has an 8" cutterhead providing the same capacity as a typical floor model-style jointer, without taking up all the floorspace. The compact size makes it easy to move between jobsites and easy to store. The spiral-type cutterhead provides smoother finishes, quieter operation, and less maintenance compared to straight-knife cutterheads. The cutting edges of the 16 high-speed steel (HSS) inserts sit perpendicular to the workpiece. Each two-sided insert can each be rotated once to expose a new sharp edge. The overall size of the inserts contacting the lumber reduces noise due to a smaller pattern of air being pushed by the cutterhead. The T32739 replacement inserts are available and sold in packs of ten when the stock inserts get dull. The sawdust created by this machine is then finer which is less likely to create clogged dust lines. Coming standard with a 4" dust port, the G0947 includes a 2-1/2" dust port adapter which is handy for smaller collectors or larger shop vacs in garage-size woodshops. The 1-1/2 HP motor is bigger than "traditional" 1 HP motor options from other brands. The bars extend the overall table size from 34" to 52" and can be locked by-hand at any point in between to support the workpiece.
