Chains

Chains are versatile tools used in countless everyday situations, providing reliable strength and utility wherever they're needed. Tractor Supply carries chains and accessories across a range of grades, styles and finishes for farm work, cargo hauling and mechanical equipment.

Strong Links for Secure Systems

Steel is the standard for chain construction because it handles tension, abrasion and repeated stress better than most materials. A steel chain holds its shape under load and resists the gradual stretch that causes connections to fail at the wrong moment. Finish options add another layer of practicality: electro-galvanized chain resists rust in wet or outdoor settings, while bare steel chain works well in dry applications where corrosion is less of a concern. Used in combination with other hardware, such as hooks, binders and shackles, chains form the backbone of a pulling or securing system that can be sized and configured for almost any job.

Our stock covers everything from lightweight hanging chains to heavy-duty transport-rated links:

Sizing and Grade Basics

Chain grades reflect the steel's strength and determine how much load a chain can safely handle. Grade 30 suits light jobs such as bundling or hanging feeders, Grade 43 handles farm pulling and log work and Grade 70 meets DOT standards for securing cargo on public roads. Wire diameter works alongside grade to set the chain's capacity, with common sizes ranging from 3/16 in. for lighter use to 1/2 in. for heavy-load applications. Diameter also determines which accessories will work with the chain, since hooks, binders and clevises are each built to fit a specific chain link size.

Chain Styles and Uses

Proof coil is a general-purpose chain designed for everyday light tasks, such as securing loads, bundling materials and hanging hardware around the shop or barn. Log chains are stronger and designed for heavy farm work, such as dragging timber or pulling stumps. Transport chain, typically Grade 70, is used to secure cargo on a flatbed or trailer for road hauling. Roller chain links operate differently from the rest, working inside machinery such as Power Take-Off (PTO)- driven equipment and conveyors. Detachable link chains can be taken apart link by link, making it easy to adjust the length without cutting.

Features and Finishes

Electro-galvanized chain features a zinc coating that helps prevent rust in outdoor and wet environments, making it a better long-term choice for exposed applications than bare steel. Hooks are one of the most common accessories paired with a chain, and the style matters depending on how the connection needs to work. Slip hooks release under load, grab hooks lock onto a link and stay put, while clevis hooks pin into place for a more permanent attachment. Matching finish and hook style to the application from the start reduces the need for extra hardware down the line.

Find the Right Chains at Tractor Supply

Our chains cover a wide range of work, from keeping barn doors latched to holding a multi-ton load on a flatbed. Having the right grade and style means you can finish the job with confidence and trust it will continue to perform reliably. Available options include proof coil, log, transport and roller chain, along with hooks and accessories to complete each setup. Shop our chains and other equipment online or stop in at your local Tractor Supply store to find the grade, length and finish your project calls for.
