The Roman Gladius is perhaps the most well-known piece of ancient weaponry. It's simple and long, double edge blade which had a long point, made it an ideal stabbing or piercing weapon that could defeat the body armor of its day. Cold Steel's interpretation is not a reproduction of a specific ancient Gladius, but is a collection of this venerable sword's major features. The blade, for example, has the traditional shape, but, unlike the ancient version, is made from high carbon steel with a spring temper. It is fully sharpened on both edges and has a fine mirror polish. The point is long, but sturdy enough to resist bending or breaking. It also features a Rosewood grip, carved, and decorated in the classical style. The wood scabbard is covered in black leather and accented with a throat, chape, and carrying rings made of solid brass. Undeniably a showpiece, the Cold Steel Gladius, like all our swords, is fully functional and battlefield ready.

  • Blade is constructed of high carbon steel with a spring temper for reliability
  • Warranted against manufactured defects

Excellent sword

A couple of years ago I asked a well known custom knife maker to make me a gladius for about twice the price. First his forge needed repair (that took several months), then he got sick and way behind, then I think he died. I found the Cold Steel gladius from a vendor and ordered it. It arrived yesterday and I'm very happy. A real sword that can do battle.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Issues with the scabbard dulling the blade

This is a great sword but the scabbard has brass pins to hold the ornamental parts in place. They're nailed into the seam of the stitching and they're too long. They kept scraping up the factory edge of the blade. I had to remove the bottom ornamental ring all together. I have at least 3 Cold Steel blades with scabbard/sheath issues.

No, I do not recommend this product.
