Flat Washers

Tractor Supply provides flat washers designed to create secure connections for a variety of needs, from fence repairs to equipment maintenance. Placed between the fastener and the material surface, a flat washer helps distribute the load evenly, preventing bolts or nuts from digging in or pulling through. Explore our selection to find the ideal size and finish for your project.

Built to Distribute Load and Guard Surfaces

Flat washers are thin metal disks featuring a central hole, known as the inside diameter (ID). To be effective, the flat washer must match the fastener. For example, a 1/4-inch bolt requires a washer with a 1/4-inch inside diameter. As the size increases, so should the washer. If the inside diameter is too large, the washer won’t stay centered, allowing the joint to shift and eventually lose clamping force. Our selection includes a wide range of washer sizes to ensure you find the perfect fit for any application.

Fender washers are similar to flat washers, but they carry a much wider outside diameter (OD) relative to their center hole – useful for bridging oversized openings or keeping thin sheet metal from tearing around the fastener. Other washers have their own proportions suited to specific jobs, but flat washers strike a tighter balance between hole size and outer edge. That makes them the dependable standard for surface protection and load distribution across wood, metal and composite materials.

Zinc-Plated Steel for Everyday Repairs

For indoor projects or those that encounter only occasional moisture, zinc-plated steel flat washers are an excellent choice. The zinc coating forms a protective barrier on the steel, helping to slow oxidation and prevent rust. Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) flat washers with this finish are ideal for machine assemblies that do not require extended exposure to wet environments. Our zinc-plated flat washers are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate everything from lighter-duty fasteners to larger bolt diameters.

Stainless Steel for Durability

Different from other materials, stainless steel naturally resists rust and corrosion without the need for additional coatings that can chip or wear away. Therefore, these flat washers are ideal for projects exposed to water, humidity or outdoor elements. Common sizes, such as 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch, are frequently used for outdoor furniture, plumbing connections and equipment regularly subjected to the weather. While zinc-plated washers perform well in dry or protected environments, stainless steel maintains its integrity even under constant exposure.

Complete Your Kit with Flat Washers from Tractor Supply

Every reliable connection begins with the proper combination of components: the bolt, nut and washer all working together to secure the joint. Flat washers help distribute stress that would otherwise be focused at the fastener head, spreading it across a wider area to protect surfaces and maintain a tight hold over time. We carry a vast selection to complete your project, with options spanning a range of materials and sizes. Find the hardware for all your jobs when you shop our selection online or at your local Tractor Supply store.
