Q: can u cook on top

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, you can cook on the flat top of the US Stove Wood-Burning Defender Stove on Legs. The surface becomes hot enough to place pots and pans directly on it for heating water, simmering stews, or frying food. However, you must control the cooking temperature by managing the size of the fire and the stove's air inlets, as there are no traditional heat adjustment knobs. This feature makes it a highly versatile and practical appliance, particularly useful during power outages.

The ash pan is useless

The woodstove seems good i havent used it just got it together, the ash pan is useless when i can use a old pot thats 3x the size. They added the ash pan to trick people into buying it. I got it for 461$ through a deal so even without the ash pan its a great upgrade but why bother adding a ash its a waste of metal for the smallest thing ive seen and put ash pan on the description without explaining that you have to manually fill it each time and dump it into a bigger container to take outside so theres no point.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good enough for me

I do like this stove. It’s not perfect, the ash drawer is not connected to the burn chamber so you can not easily empty ashes into it so what’s the point. I have ash bucket for ashes. My biggest complaint is the sloped top. I wish it was flat. No room for a humidifier kettle. But it definitely heats the space it’s in. I wouldn’t need anything bigger.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good little stuff but don't expect too much.

As stated in the title It is a good little stove. I especially like that it's made in USA. It's good for a small spaces but that's about it. It's also good if you only plan to have a fire every now and then. If you want to burn each day and maintain all day long fires this stove would become very frustrating for you. The firebox is rather small and it will fill up with ash pretty quickly by the second day. It does come with an ash drawer but it's completely useless. There's no access in the belly of the firebox to allow Ash to dump into the ash drawer. I'm a little confused as to why they have the ash drawer and/or advertise it within the ad. The bottom of the firebox is one solid piece of metal. Then they have the fire brick stacked over the top of that. Like I stated before, there is zero access to allow the ash to empty into the ash drawer. I'm not sure if The manufacture is completely unaware of it or they are just using it as a marketing ploy. The only way you're going to clean out the firebox is with an ash shovel and pan (which gets potentially messy) or a good quality ash vacuum intended for wood stoves. It also has a one lever damper to control the air flow but The control is very very limited. First off it's almost impossible to slide the lever (in and out) to begin with because it's full of cast (hundreds of small metal balls each about the size of a chia seed) from the welding process. You have to put a lot of effort into moving it in order to control the air flow to the firebox. Once the fire is going I would recommend wearing an oven mitt to try to move the lever or you could significantly burn yourself on the side of the stove. (If it wasn't clogged with 'cast' this wouldn't be so difficult.) To sum everything up, this stove is good for a small garage, or maybe a cabin somewhere for occasional fires. With the lack of an ash drawer and very unreliable control of the air flow system You will get frustrated quickly if wanting to use this stove on a day-to-day basis.

No, I do not recommend this product.
