Q: What is a personal pace toro?? Does how does it differ from self propelled? Does it go own its own or is it just easier to push???

  • A: Hi, Lala! Thanks for your question. Our self-propelled Personal Pace Auto-Drive system automatically adapts to your walking speed. No knobs or levers — just grab the easy-to-steer handle and go. Lean forward on the handle to go faster, and let up to slow down. Whereas, on our traditional self-propelled mowers, you pull the self-propel-drive bar to the handle and hold it to engage the self-propel drive, and the maximum self-propel-drive speed is fixed. Hope this helps, thanks!

Beast of a mower, but...

I almost gave this mower 5 stars (and would definitely got with 4.5 if that was an option), but a few things keep it from a 5 star rating... First, every mower these days should come with a fuel shutoff valve. It would add all of a buck or two to the price and greatly increase reliability. Given the ethanol in so much of our gas these days, it's imperative to run the carb dry if you won't be running the engine again for a couple of weeks. Instructing the owner to drain the tank, rather than just providing a fuel shutoff valve, is silly. Adding one after the fact was a pain, but I managed to squeeze it in there. Further, for a premium product like this, it would be nice to have a blade stop instead of engine stop when you pause mowing (e.g., to pick up and toss a rock out of the way). Restarting every time is inconvenient, to say the least. Someone who needs a 4WD mower is obviously going to be encountering more obstacles and such. I would have paid a bit more to have a blade stop (rather than just using a tie-wrap to defeat the safety "feature" anyway). Finally, the protection for belts and such within the blade housing seems great (we'll see how the plastic holds up), but it's lacking sufficient protection for the front wheel/pulley area. First time out mowing I managed to get a small rock caught in the pulley which stopped the front wheel drive from working until I took things apart and got the rock out of there. Hopefully a one-time thing, but it definitely exposed a weakness. That said, this mower is a beast and I have no regrets purchasing it. It starts easily, mows my hills easily, and looks like it will hold up over time. I love the rubber wheels (so many are plastic these days) and the "Personal Pace" self-propel drive works better than I expected.

Doesn't start after 4 months

I bought the Recycler, model 20353, in September of 2020 and 4 months later it doesn't start anymore. The coil seems to be broken so I have to wait until Monday to contact Toro. Very disappointing because the previous toro I had lasted me over 10 years. The quality certainly has tailed off.

Generally Disappointing

From the middle of the first season (first half of season 3 currently), and continuing to the present, I have been disappointed by problems that I have seen echoed in other reviews: surging, difficulty remaining running and or dying uncommanded, being absolutely unable to pull start despite the two pull guarantee, under-performing in bagging (chute clogging very easily and readily), and being under-powered in general (I am unable to mow my lawn, even at full height at a crawl without stalling the motor if the lawn had the slightest hint of moisture). Moreover the automatic responses to the negative feedback, encouraging only expensive and unproductive visits to the repair shop as feedback. This comes after I chose the American, premium brand. Hence, Disappointing. In an effort to ensure that it was not just a fluke of bad fuel, clogged air filter, etc., I completed a full maintenance regimen at the end of each season, including draining the fuel and replacing the air filter. Nothing is a total loss however. I have been impressed by the efficiency of the motor (when it is running properly) I am able to mow for more than two and a half hours continuously without needing to refuel. The personal pace system works well for me, and the all-wheel-drive system works better than I had expected.

No, I do not recommend this product.
