Q: I don’t see a side dispenser, does this mean you must use bag?

  • A: Hi, Greg! Thanks for your question. This model #21311, can mulch, bag and side discharge. The discharge chute is attached at the rear, where the bag is attached. In order to avoid waste and help the environment, a side discharge chute is not included in the carton for this model (since most customers prefer to mulch or bag their grass clippings). If you do want to use a side discharge chute for your clippings in the future, you will be offered the opportunity to have one sent to you, at no additional charge, when you register your mower with Toro at www.Toro.com/register. Nice mower, but fails at taller grass

Purchased this to replace a older, dying craftsman mower. First time using it, the mowing was great. I generally have shorter grass in Texas, so it not an issue. However, during our rainy season, the grass will choke out the mower. Ankle high grass or taller is a death nail. Since this does not have a discharge on it, the mulching just builds up, binds, and stops the mower. I did bag the yard once, but after 14 bags in only a quarter of my back yard, it was too much. Would like to have a rear discharge chute for this model, would make it easier. When the grass isn't too much, this mower to great, but when you have to deal with more than a few inches deep, its not going to make it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Toro Customer Support
We truly appreciate the time you took to share your feedback. Your experience is important to us, and we want to ensure your mower performs as intended. For optimal results, please avoid mowing wet grass, as this can cause clumping, clogging, or even engine stalling. It is also recommended to cut no more than one‑third of the grass blade at a time. For additional maintenance guidance, please review the operator’s manual at Toro.com/manuals. Note that a discharge chute is not included with your mower, since many customers prefer bagging or mulching. However, you may request a free discharge chute during the registration process. If you need assistance obtaining one, our customer support team is available at Toro.com/chat.

Decent mower but could be better.

Having to completely remove and reinstall the carriage bolts and knobs to fold/unfold the handle is beyond annoying. Definitely a step backwards in production design for Toro. Otherwise it's a decent mower.

The cut, easy start, power, and wheel adjustment are 5 star. The oil change procedure is at best a 3 star. An oil drain plug would be 5 star. The bag is a huge problem, 1 star. Handling the bag is frequent during mowing which makes this problem significant. Specifically there are two major design flaws. First, the two side pins which secure the bag to the mower hit obstacles when removing and attaching the bag. There is always fumbling around this. Second, when holding the bag by its handle, the bottom of the bag is always level. If there is any notable amount of grass clippings in the bag (and not full) some of the grass clippings always roll out when removing the bag and when carrying it. The bag should tilt with the opening pointing upwards a bit. Again, I am not referring to a full bag. A partially filled bag has this problem. The bag design would cause me not to buy this model again.
