Compressed Bale

Premium Alfalfa Compressed Bales are formed by allowing Standlee Premium Western Forage to grow to the proper stage of maturity, cutting the plants, allowing them to sun-cure (dry) to an acceptable moisture level and baling the forage at the optimal time. Standlee Premium Western Forage creates compressed bales of forage from a large 4'x4'x8' bale that is put through a press, sliced horizontally, pushed onto a scale, weighed, compressed and then banded. Alfalfa forage is low in sugar, moderately high in protein, high in calories and digestible f iber. Forages are non-perishable and can last for long periods of time if stored properly. Always store forages in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area. As long as the product is properly stored, forages can last for well over a year or more. Available in approximately 50 lbs. bales.

  • Low in carbohydrates - Great option for insulin resistant or carb sensitive animals
  • Expands and flakes - Physical form allows visual inspection of quality and consistency
  • Natural forage length - Mimics grazing, slows intake, stimulates chewing and minimizes digestive upset, may help eliminate boredom and prevent stall vices
  • 16% Protein - High protein level ideal choice for performance horses
  • Made in USA - Made in Idaho with care with the highest-quality forage in the USA
  • Stomach Friendly - Calcium levels can reduce the risk of stomach ulcers
  • Efficient Storage - Convenient for horse owners with limited storage capacity

Q: Should this be soaked prior to feeding

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! No. You do not have to soak these bales. However, it's often recommended or beneficial for increased hydration, aggressive eaters, or horses with dental problems, as soaking softens the forage. Allowing the bales to relax for 8-12 hours after cutting the strings is key for expansion before feeding.

Dirty compressed bales

Some sections of the bale were extremely dusty, and there were large areas of dried, caked mud in some flakes. Returned to store without any problems.
