Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job I purchased this for my sample Silkies. Got a very good deal on it. Has all the proper features you will need. Keeps them safe, have zero worries about them. These are actually great coops, you just need to treat them to get them to last. That is key.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Bought this because we were in desperate need of a chicken coup. We should have got an old washing machine box and painted it red and cut holes on the side. This coup is so poorly made that I doubt it makes it through the summer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Poor Quality I purchased this May 2017 and here it is August 2018 and it’s falling apart. Cheap wood, the paint is faiding and the bottom door is breaking. Fits three hens comfortably, but really no more than that. I doubt it will last another year. Save your money and do not buy disappointment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Chicken Coop I bought this last summer and it was a bit hard to assemble. It is very nice looking but the wood is very thin but it held up over the winter. I did cover the pen with tarps but it stood thru the wind and snow storms. I am hoping it will last a few years but the chickens need more room. I was looking for a run that attached to the small door in the front but can't find it. I think 4 chickens is the limit. Not too bad for the price but my son said he could have built a sturdier one for that money.

What type of wood is the coop made of? Is it waterproof?

Asked by: stepturner
The coops are made from China Fir. The genus Cunninghamia is a genus of one or two species of evergreen coniferous trees in the cypress family Cupressaceae. They are native to China, Taiwan, northern Vietnam and Laos, where they ... In vernacular use, it is most often known as Cunninghamia, but is also sometimes called "China-fir" (though it is not a fir). To protect the wood on the coop and pen from moisture, etc. it is recommended that a protective stain be applied at least once a year. Use a non-toxic water based stain. Most paint or hardware stores have.
