Extremely satisfied thus far!

After much consideration of several different UTV's from TSC and other dealers we ended up with the Bighorn 550. It's large cab accommodates my wife, daughter, and myself comfortably with room to spare, ordered an additional seatbelt to install for safety. If you are looking for something to win an award (or get a ticket for exhibition of acceleration) in 1/4 mile racing this is not for you. It is still in break in period so no high speed tests yet, but I believe it will easily reach 40-45 as I've seen on youtube videos. Do your homework before purchasing through the BBB, the other two units that competed with the Bighorn for me had 44 and 37 BBB negative complaints respectfully. Sunright International which seems to be Bighorns parent company has only 2 complaints in 3 years, and is rated A+ even though they are not accredited. I wanted to register my unit for warranty and their website says under construction, I sent a message and someone called me immediately after to register the unit over the phone, I hope I get the same response if I have any warranty issues that need resolve. Lastly, the folks at TSC in Lufkin, Texas were OUTSTANDING! M. Whitaker and her team the night we went in were on top of everything. There was a hiccup with the TSC visa approval and she refused to give up on the transaction until it was resolved, GREAT job Melissa! Their TSC Visa 0% for 48 months was also a HUGE selling point along with positive reviews in going through TSC for the purchase.

Horrible experience

I have made a lot of big purchases from TSC, as it has always been my favorite store.  However, this latest and most expensive turned out to be a huge disappointment.  When I purchased the ATV, I was assured by the manager, that if I ever needed service, I could use a local center in Batesburg, SC.  Turns out that service center closed shortly after.  The first time that I used the ATV for a hunting trip (last week), the 4 Wheel Drive switch quit working, and the steering became nearly impossible due to the front differential remaining engaged.  When I returned home, I took a gamble and dropped it off at a local repairman because he was notoriously quick and very knowledgeable.  He worked on the machine for 2 days and determined the 4X4 switch had gone bad.  He tried to do me the favor of contacting Big Horn to see if they would supply him with a replacement switch.  While in contact with them, Big Horn informed him that they couldn’t just send him a replacement switch, but they’d have to send him an entire new differential.  They also informed him that they’ve had multiple problems with this, and that even after a complete differential replacement, the part would almost certainly go bad again.  They gave us 2 options:  bring the atv to a service center somewhere (not local to me), and it may take them 6 months to a year to repair!!!, or they would send him the differential to replace in his shop. Mind you, he does fantastic work, but he charges $100/hour for labor!  Again, the part would likely go bad again very soon.  So, the most convenient and least expensive option to me was to just have my repairman flip the 4X4 gearing manually into 2 Wheel Drive.  And that cost me $1400!  He was nice enough to only charge me $1000, since he couldn’t give me my 4 Wheel Drive back. When I’ve contacted TSC about this issue, they only refer me to Big Horn, and I’ve already told you Big Horn’s solution.  I am now stuck with a permanent 2 Wheel Drive ATV.  At the very least, I deserve a partial refund for this piece of junk.  I’m already down $1000 to repair a piece of faulty equipment that you knowingly sell in your stores.  This isn’t just a Big Horn issue, it is a TSC issue, and I need for you to make it right.  There is currently a brand new TSC store being built in my little town, and I have been so excited about it.  Up until now.  I have been a loyal neighbor’s club shopper for a long time now.  Please don’t sour my opinion of ever shopping at a TSC store again.  Your timely response to this matter would be greatly appreciated   Thank you.  PS:  I can provide a copy of my most recent shop bill if needed.

If you buy this Be advised you're on your own. Starter went out with less than 50 Miles.. Filed a warranty claim the lady said they would get back to me. Never called. I called multiple times no answer. Leave message no call back.Tech Support is non-existent. Finally gave Up ordered parts on line and fixed it myself. Look on Facebook big horn group. This is a common problem.

Great Quality at this Price Poitn

Outstanding vehicle which - so far - has exceeded my expectations but I've only had it a couple of days. That said, the vehicle is really nice. I love the high ground clearance and the fact that there are 6 different differential options for any terrain. There are some minor issues I'm working through but I don't expect any issues. But, their existence precluded a 5 star. One was a missing bushing that holds the front seat in place. No big deal. The other is the really tough steering when in 4x4. I read a lot of reviews on various UTV's and settled on this one. I'm coming out of a 54 HP John Deere Gator which was a beast - in fact too much for me. Some reviews didn't give the Bighorn a great review when compared to Polaris, Can-Am, Kubota and JD. But, those big names (for what I wanted) averaged $25,000 and the BHE was $11K. So, where price isn't an issue, buy one of the Big 4. But, for my needs, the ability to save about $15,000 AND get a completely workable vehicle with all the options I wanted was key to my purchase. The BHE 550 has plenty of power, a huge dump bed and bench seating which is designed for 3 but can fit 4 in a pinch. My JD was 2 bucket seats so no flexibility there. Took my wife back in the woods with it and it performed extremely well in grass taller than the vehicle, fallen trees and wet, swampy ground. Frankly, if I had it to do over and had the extra money to spend - I'd STILL buy this one. The differences just aren't worth the extra cost. This vehicle is pretty awesome.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great value UTV

My 2014 ATV developed an EFI fault and I decided it was time to get a new machine, and this time, a UTV. The ability to carry a passenger, have an integrated bed, and still be able to pull my Swisher brush mower was a real benefit. I had considered other brands but the Bighorn offered the best value for the build quality, the features, the ruggedness, and for the ease of servicing. I don't need LCD screens, cameras, power steering but I do need a machine where parts are easy to access and oil and filter changes are super easy to do. It's apparently not a wet clutch machine. So no need for special motor oil. There are a few grease zerks on the suspension joints but that is a good thing for a long life, if messy to do. I'm an engineer and the overall design of this machine is extremely well executed. I usually have many criticisms over equipment. The plastic bodywork is also much, much stiffer and stronger than its close rival, also available from TSC. I caught the side of a tree on a narrow trail and thought I'd see broken plastic. Just a scuff! I'm trying to complete the 50-mile break-in before I can tow my brush mower. After 1.5 days, I've managed 20 miles. I've grass to cut!! Mine is the Veil Camo 'winter edition' but it has no heater, no enclosed cab, not even half doors. Seems a strange description. Technically, it is 'heater ready', if you want to buy the kit. The engine is very loud inside the canopy. You are sitting right above it. I wear ear plugs anyway when using my machines, so no biggie for me. The cab version must be deafening, and ear-damaging, inside. There's a ton of storage cubbies in the dash and, under the seat, there's a nice deep bin for tools. The tilt bed has a great capacity at 550 lbs and works a charm with its gas-assist strut. I lined mine with a thick, horse stall rubber mat to protect the bottom when dumping logs, brush, etc. The steering is fine without power, turning circle is tight, and the overall machine ride and stability is very good. The throttle pedal is a little light and the right leg ergonomics for a 6ft 2" guy is a little uncomfortable trying to control that pedal at slow speeds over bumpy ground. The 550 can manage the muddiest of trails though with ease - good traction tires, 4 x 4 with selectable front and rear diff locks, low center of gravity. The machine looks great and performs great. It's fully road-ready with all the lights and mirrors, though it's not legal to drive a UTV on the roads in PA. I emailed Bighorn and have received replies the next day. If the machine proves reliable long term, I will be very satisfied with my purchase. So far, I would certainly recommend the Bighorn 550 Explorer. Fingers crossed!
