This wire is a 17-gauge high-tensile product with a tensile strength of 90,000-105,000 PSI, which makes it strong for pulling tight along a fence line but also harder and less flexible than standard soft or mild steel wire. That hardness is why it tends to crack or snap when hand-twisted or knotted, since high-tensile wire isn’t designed to bend sharply around itself the way softer wire does. It’s built to be run taut between posts and joined with gritted crimp sleeves or line clamps rather than twisted by hand, so it’s not well suited for wrap-and-twist tying applications like securing logs. For that kind of use, a softer, more pliable wire such as mild steel bailing wire would hold up much better to repeated twisting.
