Rope Hardware
Rope is a versatile tool that's used for a number of scenarios and jobs. However, the fittings and fasteners used to perform a task matter just as much as the rope itself. Tractor Supply carries rope hardware within our ropes and accessories selection, from clamps and stops to thimbles built for regular field use.
Useful Rope Add-Ons
A rope is only as strong as the points where it's fastened or looped. Those spots take the most stress when weight shifts or tension builds, and hardware that isn't matched correctly will slip, wear or fail before the rope does. The right fittings hold position under load and protect the rope where it contacts metal, where most of the wear occurs.
Our clamps, stops and thimbles each address a specific weak point in a rope setup and do different jobs. We offer a range of materials to suit your job, including steel, which can handle higher loads and performs well in wet or outdoor conditions. Our stock also features aluminum and nylon options that are lighter and suited to jobs with lower tension.
Clamps That Lock the Line
When two sections of rope need to join, or a loop needs to stay fixed, a rope clamp is what holds that arrangement together. It compresses around the rope at a set point, gripping the line without a knot. Two metal plates and a set of bolts form the basic design, and you can tighten them down and the clamp holds the rope firmly at the position you chose. Steel versions resist corrosion and handle heavier loads better than lighter materials, which makes them a go-to for outdoor and marine applications.
Stops That Hold Position
A rope stop keeps a rope from sliding through a ring, fitting or opening when you need it to stay put. It locks around the line at a chosen spot, blocking movement without requiring the rope to be knotted or tied off. Plastic stops work well for lighter jobs such as flag lines or tent guy ropes, while metal versions hold firm under heavier pulls. A durable rope stop stays in place, even with regular loading and unloading.
Thimbles That Guard the Loop
Looping the end of a rope and attaching it to a hook or shackle repeatedly stresses the same spot. Without a thimble, the rope fibers at that loop wear down against the metal until the rope weakens or breaks at the connection. Rope thimbles are grooved inserts that fit inside the loop, putting a smooth, reinforced surface between the rope and whatever it's attached to. They also prevent the loop from distorting under load, helping the rope maintain its original strength rating.
