Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical for installation and good value I bought this tank to store emergency water in our high wildfire hazard mountain neighborhood. I think this tank is close to the maximium size that can easily be transported with a standard pickup truck. The tank's material is rated for potable water if desired, and the threaded outlet/inlets allow for commonly available hardware store fittings to be installed. Given current shipping costs for ultra bulky items like this tank, the price is great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great I built a rainwater collection system at my barn, and used one of these, and it worked great. It's light enough for one person to install. Empty of course. It took a few trips back and forth to Tractor Supply and Home Depot to get the right fittings for what I was attempting, but It's worked great for 4 years.

What is recommended as a base for a 1,550 gal tank on?

Asked by: Robert norcal
Hi Robert, here are some general guidelines that Norwesco provides about preparing a base for your tank: Inspect the surface to ensure a smooth, level area that will supply full bottom support. A properly constructed concrete pad that is capable of supporting the contents of the tank is the best support and is recommended above 2,000 gallons. Other materials such as very flat blacktop, or contained, packed sand or pea gravel have been used successfully. All surfaces must maintain uniform support through freeze/thaw, erosion and other disturbances. Please feel free to call me if you need further advice. Thanks, Bob 952-446-8807

I just bought one of these and can't figure out where it vents air from. There is a tiny hole on top that I thought was for wiring. Is this the air vent?

Asked by: Brandonros
All of our tanks have vented lids and this is how they are vented.

Hi, Can this tank be placed underground?

Asked by: bod7000
Hi bod7000, Tanks specifically designed for above ground use cannot be put underground. If it is put below ground, the weight of the earth around the tank will cause the walls to collapse. We do make septic and cistern tanks that are designed to be buried. See "Water & Waste Management Tanks" under Norwesco's Products tab at the top page of our website. These tanks can be special ordered through your local TSC store. Please call me if you need any help with your order process. Thanks, Bob 952-446-8807

What is the size of the fitting that is by the lid?

Asked by: dale4253
There is no other vent besides the one that is installed into the lid itself – which is 2” in diameter.

Ok I am in Susanville CA. I have a 16 foot long by 6 feet 3 inch wide utility trailer. Can this be loaded and hauled on its side using blocks to keep it from rolling and roping it down

Asked by: Cliffhanger
If laid on its side, it will definitely fit on your trailer. As far as securing it down, your method seems feasible.

What is the thickness of the tank walls and top?

Asked by: Ali707
The short answer is not less than 1/4 inch. The Norwesco water tank is designed and manufactured to hold product with a specific gravity up to 1.1, (9.2 pounds per gallon) at 73 degrees F. Because the wall thickness varies from top to bottom on a tank, it is not the best gauge for determining the quality of a tank. The very bottom of the tank is the thinnest part of the tank and is made that way to flex when the tank is empty or full. Generally the wall becomes thicker as you go from the top to the bottom of a vertical tank. This is done to increase resistance to head pressure created by the height of the liquid in the tank. The radius of the tank is thicker to increase strength where it is most critical. The actual weight of the tank is also not a good comparison when shopping for tanks. Just because a competitor may use more material in the tank does not make it a better tank. That is determined by the resin, mold design and the steps taken during the rotomolding process.
