This is a great product for my old pony who has barely any teeth left. I soak the cubes all night for morning feeding and then all day for night time feeding. He loves them!

Alfalfa Cubes Not Like They Used to Be

I have been buying Standlee Alfalfa, Alfalfa/Oat, Alfalfa/Timothy Cubes for many years....only once have I purchased a a group of bags and get home only for them to be moldy...(that has never happened before and I returned them the next day no problem)...I mainly use the cubes as treats in the summer but in the winter I like to make up what I call a Hay Cube Stew...Cubes, bran, carrots, apples and hot water...let it soak in boiling hot water and the horses really love it. I have to agree with the other reviews that particularly the Alfalfa Cubes are like Cement! I struggle to even break them up with a hammer....you need an ice pick and a hammer...no joke....you must let them sit in very hot water for at least 1/2 hr. before they even remotely soften. I have tried slamming the 40lb bag on the pavement prior to opening thinking it would help...no such luck. The quality of the hay is tops but they didn't used to be this cement like...processing must have changed...also a major problem is finding small strands of red or blue twine in the cubes....so you do need to inspect the cubes...that is a hassle when I want to make a large bucket of the hay cube stew. Mixing the cubes with water in the summer is not an option as they sour quickly with the heat. Prior to finding the Standlee Hay Cubes at TSC I had purchased hay cubes at a local feed store a few times they were very poor quality hay mixed with a lot of dirt...I ended up trashing the bags the few times I tried them. All that being said...I will continue to purchase the Standlee Brand Cubes at Tractor Supply. Just wish I didn't have to look for the pieces of twine nor them be like cement blocks.

Skinny Senior

I have been struggling to keep weight on my senior thoroughbred despite tons of grain and more hay than she could finish. I started adding a couple scoops of soaked alfalfa cubes to her daily diet and within about a month and a half she gained more weight than she had all winter!

Yes, I recommend this product.
