Q: Can my rooster eat this feed

1 Answer
  • A: It is not recommended for roosters to eat this feed. Because it is a layer feed, the high calcium levels can cause bone defects, kidney failure, and sterility in males. To prevent this, you can use a "flock raiser" feed or provide separate feeding areas for your hens and roosters.

Q: Can this feed be fermented

  • A: We do not recommend fermenting chicken feed. Feeding a complete chicken diet such as Dumor Layer or Purina Layena provides complete nutrition as well as probiotics and is the safest way to provide nutrition to chickens.

Q: So how do you not have the roosters eat this food if they live with the hens and same with the male duck that lives with the female ducks

1 Answer
  • A: To prevent roosters from eating layer feed, the most effective method is to feed your entire flock a "flock raiser" feed which is formulated for both hens and roosters, or to provide separate feeding areas where only the hens can access the layer feed, either by using feeders designed to restrict access based on size or by physically separating the feeding areas for roosters and hens; this is because layer feed contains high levels of calcium which roosters don't need and can be detrimental to their health in large quantities. If you want to feed layer feed to hens only, consider using feeders that only allow hens to access them due to their size or design, or create separate feeding zones for roosters and hens

Superior product!

I’d been using a well known name brand feed until I got a couple moldy/ bug infested bags and switched immediately to Producer’s Pride Layer feed and have never switched back. I’ve never had an issue with this brand, it’s always fresh and the smaller size of the pellets has been preferred by my flock. Great price in comparison to other brands too!

Chickens stopped laying eggs

Food has stopped my chickens from laying..I'm not the only one with this problem. I spoke to the store and basically it wasn't their problem. I was told to learn more about chickens. Thank you tractor supply for hearing me out and assuming I don't understand my chickens laying process.
