Q: How much electricity does it take to run. How big of a solar generator would I need

1 Answer
  • Forge & Flame
A: Thank your inquiry. Currently the electrical rating for the PP130-B is 120 VAC, 60 Hz, Start 2.6 amps, Run 2.3 amps. We have not tested our stoves to ran off of generators of any kind. We can not guarantee the efficiency of the stove while running on a generator. If you were to run it that way we would recommend a clean sine wave inverter to be used. This is not guarantying that it would run efficient or may not harm the electronics of the stove. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q: Will this stove operate without electricity?

1 Answer
  • Forge & Flame
A: Hi there, these stove requires electricity to operate. In the event of a power outage, these stoves can be plugged to a steady state generator to continue operating. Battery backup systems are available from Tripp-Lite. A good inverter/charger with auto switching paired up with a marine deep cycle battery can keep you warm when the power is out. We hope this helps!

Junk!

I've had problems with this stove since day one! I mean new out of the create this stove did not function as intended! I've replaced the ambient temp probe, the vacuum switch, exhaust temp probe and the auger motor all under warranty of course. They never offered to replace the stove but rather send me parts.. I am not a pellet stove technician this should not be my problem to solve! But still these issues should not exist on a new stove! This stove continues to red light even while burning the recommended Tractor Supply brand pellets!

No ash drawer/Motor failure before 90 days

I bought mine at Menards, on 9/26/25 and yesterday 12/24/25, the electric feeder motor died. So now I am waiting on parts, on a barely 3 month model. This unit is not built to run weeks at a time, !There is NO ash tray! So even with the trim set correctly, ash builds up after 3 or so days and you have to shut it down and cool off and clean. I hate the thermostat!! To keep a consistent burn you either have to have it at low or high, because God forbid you want a constant temp that is in-between, low or high. It will turn on and off to regulate the heat from setting 2-9, problem is because there is no way to dump ashes, the unit will kill itself because of failure to reignite, after the ash builds up. All units are going to have ash, it doesn’t matter, but PelPro doesn’t give you the ability to limit ash buildup up around the ignition. Poor design, I wish I would have done more research. I grew up with a pellet stove that was built in the late, 90’s it was 9 years before we ever replaced a part and had an ash draw, like all units should. If you are only going to use this unit up at a cabin in a garage, it might fit the bill for you. If you want this to heat all winter day-in day-out, I would recommend you go with a better unit or brand.

Hello,

You are correct, there is no ash tray, and if you would read page 23 of the Owner's Manual you will see we do give a Pro Tip on how to maintain the stove. We also discuss what type of pellets create more ash and which create less. We are sorry you did not understand how our unit is constructed or how it would need to be maintained. We would appreciate the chance to help you with your stove. You may call PelPro at 877-427-3316 to speak to our customer servcice.

Thank you HHT

decent pellet stove for the money

Its a good pellet stove. Seems to be pretty efficient and its doesn't make as much ash as I thought it would be dealing with. My last house, I had a Harman and really wanted to go with that again, but wasn't sure if the layout of the new house would allow heat to get everywhere since its an old farmhouse with small rooms. Still struggling with that, but to "test" the idea, this was a lot cheaper than a Harman. I do wish it had a removable ash pan that I could empty without shutting the stove down. It also has a tendency to bounce pellets outside of the burn pot (I think this is from the back pc of the burn pot where it has a bend in it that faces the burn pot) All in all, its a decent stove for the money.
