- A: Raccoons are drawn to foods high in fat or sugar. Havahart's recommended raccoon baits include: Bacon Cat food Marshmallows Sardines Sweet options like watermelon For a 2-door trap, you have a few placement options: place the bait just behind the trigger plate, bury it in the ground under the trigger, or hang it from the top of the trap. Make sure the bait is positioned so the raccoon has to fully enter the trap to reach it — this ensures the trigger gets engaged. A couple of extra tips: place a brick or other weight on top of the trap, since raccoons can try to knock it over to steal bait, and wear gloves while baiting, as raccoons can be wary of human scent on the trap.18 days agoHelpful?

Best small animal trap

The Havahart brand is my preferred small animal trap. I use mine to do TNR for community cats. The double doors is SUCH a nice feature. The trap is well-made and the price is right. I also got free shipping from TSC, which made the purchase even better. This purchase is replacing an older Havahart trap I am gifting to a friend.

I bought a animal trap from Homosassa tractor Supply and paid $99.00 for it.I didn't use it for a while and when I did use it the animal escaped and tore up the trap .Now it is useless.

Poorly constructed. Trap did not hold up. Tha armadillo pushes his way out bending the cage and damaging the door.
