Animal Traps are very well built. The wire is thick.

This trap is hit and miss, and requires some skill and modification to successfully catch clever coons. The biggest problem is the cage holes are big enough for a raccoon to reach in and grab the bait, and their arms are also typically long enough to reach the bait regardless of how careful you are to place it in the center of the trap. Plus, they can easily move the trap around, so you have to stake it down. I monitored the trap with a motion detecting camera and caught them doing these things. I used marshmallows for bait, and maybe I should have used something more difficult to grab like tuna or wet cat food, but I didn't want the trap to require a bunch of cleaning in between uses. I ended up putting quarter inch square wire mesh around the bait end of the trap to force the raccoon to enter the trap to get the bait. I agree with other reviewers that the raccoons quickly tear up the trap, particularly the thin sheet metal trigger plate, because they understandably lose their minds when trapped, flipping around and struggling until you come to retrieve the trap, making the trap difficult to reset for the next victim without straightening out the mangled trigger plate.
