Sillcock
The sillcock is the valve that allows water to flow from inside your home to an outdoor faucet or pipe bibb (spigot). It threads into an exterior wall and serves as the main shutoff point for that line. Part of Tractor Supply's versatile valves lineup, our sillcocks boast durable constructions and features For Life Out Here.
Outdoor Faucet Valves
Most homes have at least one sillcock on an exterior wall, but not all are built the same way. Chrome-plated models are designed for outdoor exposure, with a finish that resists rust and holds up through weather changes. Brass sillcocks are a solid choice where freezing isn't a concern, offering durability in a compact package. Either type connects into a broader system that includes other plumbing products, such as shut-off valves, pipe fittings and supply lines.
A frost-proof sillcock features an extended stem that runs through your exterior wall, allowing you to control the handle outside while the water shuts off at the interior end, safely within the heated area of your home. This design keeps the exposed pipe section dry, preventing freezing. Models with 8- or 12-in. stems typically fit most insulated exterior walls. Anti-siphon sillcocks address a different issue: if a hose sits in a bucket of dirty water or chemicals and water pressure drops, contaminated water can be drawn back into your home's supply. An integrated backflow preventer protects against this risk.
Matching the Inlet Thread to Your Pipe
The inlet is the end that threads onto your water supply pipe, and the thread type is the first spec to check. MIP stands for Male Iron Pipe, and external threads on the valve that screw into a fitting or pipe with internal threads. FIP, or Female Iron Pipe, means the valve has internal threads and connects to a pipe or fitting with external threads. An FIP inlet is often the right call when your supply pipe in the wall already has external threads, since it connects without requiring an adapter.
Choosing the Right Outlet End
How the sillcock connects on the outside depends on the outlet style, and the two options are built for different situations. Sweat outlets use soldered copper connections where the pipe slides into the valve end and heat fuses the joint permanently. Once that bond sets, it holds without concern for the fitting loosening over time. MHT, or male hose thread, is cut to match standard garden hose fittings, so any compatible hose or attachment threads on by hand. For seasonal use or frequent changes in what's connected, MHT is the more flexible arrangement.
Find the Right Sillcock for Your Setup at Tractor Supply
Sillcocks provide controlled, reliable water access through an exterior wall, and the right configuration makes that job easier year-round. Frost-proof lengths and anti-siphon protection address the most common failure points before they cause damage. Picking the right specs now means the valve works without issue for years.
