Q: how do you open it for cleaning? the metal rod in the center spins but it doesn’t come out
13 days ago1 Answer
- A: You typically do not need to (or shouldn't) remove the metal center rod to clean your Prairie Style Bird Feeder. The rod is usually permanently threaded or riveted to hold the base, roof, and glass/plastic panels together. Step-by-Step Disassembly Empty the Feeder: Pour out any remaining birdseed. Secure the Base: Hold the very bottom metal tray/base firmly with one hand. Unscrew the Rod: Grip the hanging loop or the top cap of the metal rod with your other hand. Rotate the rod counterclockwise (lefty-loosey). Because the rod spins freely, it may feel like it isn't moving, but continuing to unscrew it will eventually release it from the threaded nut embedded in the bottom tray. Remove the Roof and Tube: Once fully unscrewed, lift the roof straight up and off the rod, followed by the clear plastic seed reservoir Cleaning Tips Soak to Loosen Grime: Fill a large bucket with warm, soapy water or a 1:9 bleach-to-water solution to disinfect the parts. Let them soak for 10–15 minutes to loosen dried bird droppings and stuck seeds. Scrub the Crevices: Use an old toothbrush or a long bottle brush to thoroughly clean the small corners and feeding ports. Dry Completely: Allow every piece to air dry fully in the sun before reassembling to prevent new mold from growing on your birdseed10 days agoHelpful?
Q: How do you clean the inside of this bird feeder
2 months ago1 Answer
- A: You can clean this bird feeder by hand washing it with soap and water or using a damp cloth. For specific assistance with disassembly or deep cleaning the interior, the manufacturer recommends contacting product customer service at 800-635-3831.2 months agoHelpful?
Q: How do you get it apart to clean? There does not seem to be a way to take it apart. If you pull the rod out of the middle the grommet on the underside comes off and since it is recessed several inches in a narrow tube it is impossible to get back on.

Not very durable
I liked the capacity of the feeder. It is relatively easy to fill and clean, it has good drainage holes on the bottom. However, it lacks in durability: the lid completely disintegrated after only one year. I have other feeders in the same price category hanging in the full sun in FL, and they still function well. Because of the durability issue, I do not recommend this feeder.
