- A: Yes, solar lights use rechargeable batteries, and a dead battery is almost always the reason a light stops working even when it gets plenty of sun. You do not need to change the bulb, as your Red Shed 12 in. Solar Chicken Lantern uses built-in LED bulbs that are designed to last for many years without failing 1. Perform a Deep "Hard Charge" ResetSometimes the internal controller simply gets locked up and needs a full power cycle.Locate the power switch on the bottom of the solar panel cap and switch it to OFF.Leave the lantern out in direct, intense sunlight for 2 to 3 consecutive days while remaining off.This allows the battery to accumulate a deep charge without draining at night. Switch it to ON after dark to test it. 2. Clean the Solar PanelIf the plastic covering on top of the solar panel looks cloudy, faded, or dirty, it cannot absorb enough energy.Wipe away grime using a soft damp cloth.If it has a severe white, chalky oxidation film, rub it gently with a paper towel dampened with a bit of mosquito spray (like OFF) or rubbing alcohol to instantly restore clarity 3. Replace the Internal BatteryRechargeable batteries in outdoor solar units typically wear out after 1 to 2 years of constant charging cycles.Use a small screwdriver to open the battery compartment under the solar cap.Inspect the metal tabs for white or green crusty corrosion. If you see any, scrape it clean with a piece of sandpaper or an eraser.Check the exact battery size used in your chicken lantern model—Red Shed standard lanterns use either a Ni-MH AAA (1.2V) or a Ni-MH AA (1.2V) rechargeable battery.Replace it with a matching new rechargeable battery. Super cute, I want another!

I love this, I’ll Review it, again in case it doesn’t post! I almost want to buy a second one, but I only have pots for a flower garden & to decorate! The reflection is so strong & stays lit for a long time! I charge outside, but when dusk hits, I bring it in to project onto my wooden floor! Super cute & big in size! I bought one for my niece in Idaho who owns a farm w/chickens, roosters & more!

Vibrant red with lots of chickens reflection!

Love the brightness & the reflection that bounces off the floor! I have no room outside, so I charge in the sun all day, then bring inside, so I can enjoy it! I rent & don’t have my own yard! It’s big & worth it! My niece lives on a farm in Idaho with chicks, hens & roosters! I purchased, then had her go pick it up! I almost want another one!
