Q: Do the pellets float on water?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, Purina Duck Feed pellets are not designed to float and will sink and disintegrate into a mushy consistency when placed in water. To ensure proper nutrition and minimize waste, the manufacturer recommends providing the feed in a dry feeder alongside a separate source of fresh water.

Q: Can my 2 week old ducklings eat this? And do they need grit to help them digest this?

1 Answer
  • Purina Product Expert
A: Feed your ducks from day one into happy adulthood. Purina® Duck Feed is specifically formulated to meet the elevated niacin levels ducklings need to grow and adult ducks need to maintain proper health. Our balanced formula is complete and can be fed to ducks as their sole diet from the moment they hatch through their entire life. Supplement this diet for laying ducks with Purina® Oyster Shell for added calcium. Birds being fed a commercial diet like ours, do not need grit. If you start treating them with scratch grains (which we don't recommend introducing until they are 18 weeks old) then grit would help them process it a little more easily.

Q: Does it float

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, No it does not float. The pellets sink and then disintegrate a porridge type consistency (depending on the amount of water). The ducks love it and pellets are much easier for them. Crumble type food seems to cause them to choke. Feeding the pellets from a feeder or bowl, next to water seems to work well.

This got good reviews so I bought it for our mallard ducks who come to feed but none of them would eat it they smelled it and definitely it was a hard no for them..I put it out even for the squirrels to use it up but nobody wanted to eat it..certainly none of the ducks..waste of money. They didn't like the smell that was obvious..
