Some damage to kennel peeling paint/rust

We couldn't be happier! I considered building our coop and run, but after pricing everything out and considering the time necessary, I decided to purchase this set up. I built it mostly on my own, took my time, and called for an extra hand a few times. The trickiest part was this: When you build the roof for the coop, they have you put the front gutter on before attaching the roof to the coop. Then when you go to put the roof on the coop (if your coop is already snugged up to the run, which it should be because it's too heavy to move later) you can't drop the front gutter side of the roof in between the coop and run. Solution: we put a ladder on each side of the coop and two of us layed the coop roof upside down, shingles down, onto the run, lined the gutter up with the space between the run and coop, and slowley flipped it 180 degrees into place while making sure that the gutter slid right in. We have four hens and this coop has done exactly what we needed. It's pretty sturdy, roomy and once we added the run cover, which you can get at TSC also, it has provided plenty of shelter and shade. We've had some heavy rain, three inches last weekend, and the coop stays dry inside, maybe a little moisture around the doors, but expected. Ventilation seems good, we may add a front vent above the coop door but it doesn't seem necessary so far (several 90 degree days so far.) We also added an apron around the whole thing made out of green covered galvanized fencing to keep any diggers out (see Carolina Coops on youtube for this procedure.) With Wisconsin winter coming we will add vertical, opaque, corrugated roofing panels to the lower half of the run as a snow and wind barrier. For the price, you will not regret this purchase. We did pick ours up and the package was quite tall on our 8' utility trailer. The whole thing is packed in a metal frame which makes tying it down pretty simple.

Great run! Very sturdy

My wife and I purchased this chicken coop and run kit upon moving to our new home. We were going to build one with plans, but when we found the Defender, we couldn’t pass up an all in one option. This kit checks off all the boxes for the hobby farm chicken keeper - sturdy, all-in-one, and easy to assemble in an afternoon. Our ten pullets and three ducklings love it! They were going in on their own by the second night. I would note, for first time chicken keepers, that if you live in a zone where a portion of the year is below freezing, some measures should be taken to keep the birds warm. The walls are not thick by any means. Other than that, we are happy with our purchase. We bought the top tarp as well - I highly recommend. It’s great for a rainy day so your birds can still enjoy time outside.

This did take 2 of us to assemble, but it is nice and sturdy with a good layout! Things to consider (that others have mentioned too, so i was not caught off guard) *I have only 6 chicks now but I cannot see that the hutch will be comfortable for more than 10 at night in the hutch *there are multiple spots where there are gaps that will need to be covered - in the hutch, gaps that let in rain and potentially too much cold air in the winter - in the run, gaps that you may want to cover depending on what predators or mice you want to keep out * I am presuming it would be much easier to square up on a flatter piece of land than we have, but we made it work with pavers and animal barrier/no dig fence barrier around the base We have painted it (if you want to paint/stain do it before assembly!), added weather proofing and 2 windows on the front - one with a solar fan. And wrapped the bottom 2/3 with hardware cloth. I thought about giving 4 stars, but I think outside of the weather proofing I am probably just being extra cautious as this is my first time having chickens.

The instructions were clear except for one step with the roof (the scale of the picture is wonky) but we figured it all out. Took 2-3 people about 4 hours to get done. My girls love it. I liked the little alcove on the ground because I have a mixed flock with a couple of ducks. The storage is great and all the little access doors are perfect for collecting the ducks eggs. This was a huge upgrade from the run setup we had before.

Good quality and sturdy frame. An error on instructions with roof that I couldn’t figure out but otherwise it’s fine.

Super happy with this coop and run. Very stable, well-made, and has held up to the crazy storms in Illinois this year.

So we've had our coops up for a couple months now no issues. Easy assembly and so far so good on durability even through a few bad storms. Definitely great when they are onsale which is when we purchased ours we have 2. We put a tarp over the run and chickens seem happy. The only reason this isnt 5 stars is because the company clearly doesnt know the size of chickens in regards to capacity but we knew this before getting them we house 10 full size chickens in each and they fit but we wouldnt add more.

Unfortunately just like some of the other bad reviews I had a similar experience. It is most definitely not predator proof. There are gaps throughout the coop that a raccoon came and pryed them apart, the raccoon was also able to open the door so a padlock is 100% necessary. I do like that most of the latches has eyelets for a lock. The actual nesting box however doesn't! The raccoon did kill one of my hens and the rest of my flock was able to get out while it was being eaten. So I got lucky that the entire flock wasnt killed but the door to the coop is pretty damaged now. The hinges are bent out since the latch is in the middle it pryed the top of the door and pivoted and bent the entire door but then got in through the gated door. I can also see how these gaps could be an issue for rain, but I don't get much rain here. I would suggest buying the kennel part but getting the actual coop attachment from somewhere else. It is also very small inside and it is a bit disappointing. I absolutely wouldn't put the amount of chicken capacity that it is rated for. I would say 10 small chickens maybe at most. If you do try it anyway, I would recommend putting additional locking mechanisms on the doors that have the windows because those can be pivoted in the middle and they bend the hinges out and absolutely buy bolts and nuts to put through all the latches to keep them locked, and then buy a padlock for the kennel door. Also get the predator skirting to protect from the raccoon digging underneath and then a sunshade to go on top of the kennel. Overall I still gave it three stars because it's a complete kit and easy set-up. I don't even get a lot of predators in my yard because of my dogs and my geese and this still happened to me. Take extra precautions.

Easy to assemble. Large and sturdy. Keeps most predators out. Definitely worth the money especially if you catch it on sale.

This coop is a terrible choice if you live anywhere that gets rain. The bottom of the area where the hens perch doesn’t come out, which makes cleaning extremely difficult. It’s even worse after it rains because there’s no easy way to drain or remove the standing water. To make matters worse, I purchased it just before it went on sale, and the company refused to refund me the price difference. It also arrived missing the bottom floor of the storage compartment. To add insult to injury, I paid for delivery. They sent only one delivery person, who then had the nerve to ask my 86-year-year old mother to help move it. Overall, this was a terrible product and an even worse customer service experience. I would not recommend it.

My flock is gone. There’s no way I paid $1200 for a coop that’s supposed to be predator resistant just for my flock to be gone. Would not recommend. It’s not fair.

This thing is perfect in most ways. We love it and so do the chickens! The one thing to be aware of when you open the upper back door to check for eggs, have something handy to brush the bedding back or you will have issues closing the doors! That is not a problem, that is just physics at work!

If I could give it zero ratings I would. It came with tons of damage and when I contacted them about it they offered $100 off. When I told them that wasn’t acceptable they responded days later saying I didn’t respond

This very sturdy and is well designed. It was fairly easy to put the run together for 2 people. Tractor Supply put the coop together for us. I can't wait to get my chickens and Guinea fowl.

I was able to assemble this coop mostly by myself, though I did need a second pair of hands to help lift and secure the top of the run. I highly recommend using a power driver, as it makes securing the self-tapping screws much easier. Pay very close attention to the base during assembly; the instructions were unclear regarding orientation, and I ended up having to rebuild the entire unit after installing a piece upside down. Since I live in Arkansas, I plan to add hardware cloth to the vents and swap the plexiglass windows for hardware cloth to improve airflow during our hot summers, though I’ll keep the original windows to reattach for the winter. I added a coat of water sealer to the wood to help with longevity. I also assembled and placed the coop under a lean-to to keep it out of direct rain and harsh elements, which should help protect it against our local weather conditions.. So far, so good. My chickens seem to really enjoy the extra space and freedom compared to their previous setup. I have four major coops on my property, and this one is currently housing five small chickens without any issues. It has been a great addition to the flock set ups.

The coop isn't the best quality. The metal run is pretty sturdy. Removing the plexiglass windows in the summer and adding steel mesh allows for air flow (FL). Because it is not water proof at all and leaks all over, we put the coop under a pole barn. This solved a lot of the issues we had before with water. Since we live in a sandy area, we put cattle panels under the coop and run to prevent predators from digging under. So far, (fingers crossed) it has worked. Would be nice if there was a way to open to top area for cleaning. Removing the metal trays is convenient, but the roosting bars limit the ease of removal. You will eventually end up replacing the wood siding. It is the cheapest available product. Give it a good coat of stain. If it is sitting in the weather, it certainly isn't made to last.

The metal of the coop is powder coated a very sturdy. The wood is thin and does not seem like it will last very long but I think you can replace it when that time comes. For the most part it seems well made and good design. I took off the plexiglass and put up Hardwire cloth since we're in a hot climate. But it'll be easy to put it back in the winter.

I liked the coop before the bear destroyed the coop. This coop is not predator proof. The bear ripped apart the hen house completely broke into it. The chickens didn’t stand a chance

Ordered the coop over a month ago and still haven’t received it. Was supposed to be delivered on 6/30 and here we are, 7/12 and no coop. This is my first and will probably be my last time ordering through TSC.

This is a sturdy enclosure for chickens, and it looks very nice! There are a few things I will do to ensure its longevity of it though. The outside coop will need a protective coating on the wood. The inside will need to be lined with something to protect the wood. The divider between the nesting boxes is floppy and will need to be secured to keep the chickens from knocking it over. As far as keeping unwanted animals out, I will add pavers around the bottom perimeter and secure the vent better. I'm sure they'll find a way to get in because it's what they do. In all, it's a very sturdy and nice setup that you can put up in a few hours.

The coop was relatively easy to put together. The overall quality of the house its self is 2 stars. Very poor - the fence part is really well built. I will probably need to replace the house in a year or two. We will see how well it holds up.

Took a little to put together alone but it definitely can be done, myself and the chickens absolutely love it!
