This door allows you to program up to 40 pets, so it's great for multi-pet households. Since it only reads your best friend's microchip ID, you won't have to worry about any unwanted animals wandering into your house. Programming your cat's microchip to the door is quick and easy - your pet will be heading out to play in no time! If you have a pet in your home without a microchip, programmable collar keys are sold separately. The door has a 4-way lock so you can set it to Locked', Unlocked', Enter Only' or Exit Only' to keep your cat safe and secure. Worked ok for a few year but now I need to replace

I've had this car door for two years. When I originally bought it I tried to use the microchip on my cat. I think the vet installed the microchip further down the back which made it really hard for my cat to be detected by the door. I ended up just taping down microchip lock so my cat could use the door. That worked alright (although my cat would get locked out occasionally if the tape came off). But now the door flap had cracked and the weather stripping on the sides is worn. I tried to look for a replacement flap but it looks like petsafe doesn't have one. Now I'm looking for a replacement door (without microchip ...) that will fit in the original cutout that I have for this door. I can't seem to figure that out from the product descriptions and the AI support is not helpful. Would love to talk to a human on what external car doors from petsafe would be compatible with cutout, not use microchip, and have a replacement flap available (just in case...).

We're sorry to see that your cat's door has been damaged! We do apologize, too, for any confusion on how this door operates. If you do not wish to use the microchip feature, you would not need to tape any part of the door, and we would not recommend this as this can cause damage. You would simply need to change the mode of the door off of automatic and set it manually to "open". Alternatively, we do have keys that can be placed on your cat's collar to use automatic mode without reading your cat's microchip. This information may be helpful if you do decide to replace this same model of door, as this would be the only model that would fit your cutout exactly. If you would prefer to move to a fully manual door, the closest option would be our big cat door, seen here- https://www.petsafe.com/p/big-cat-door/ZPA10-17883/ This would require your cutout be adjusted to be a little less than 2" wider, and a little more than 1 1/2" taller. Neither of these options would have replacement flaps available separately, however. To move to a door with replaceable flaps, you would need to move to a significantly larger cutout. Keeps the strays out!

These were easy to install, excellent instructions. Chips were easily recognized by the door. Definitely a learning curve for our cats. We started out by using some duct tape to hold the flap partially open after a few days all three were zipping in and out Removed the tape and within another few days all were using without issue. Once set the doors to only let them in with their chip it took just over 24 hours to figure it out; the second one took about 3 days; our last one, almost a week. She hates the slight click of the locking mechanism. Our house is concrete block so I also got 2 extension tunnels and the adapter for each door. The feral cats haven't been able to get into the house so far.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Dont buy!!

Very very unfortunate. I can program the external collar chip, but when I put it right next to the door, it will not unlock.

Poor draught exclusion

Not super impressed, chip function is erratic and the door is VERY draughty in the winter
