Pet Lodge Chow Hound Dog Feeder, 50 lb. Capacity is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Should have ordered a chicken feeder! When I took the dog feeder out of the box I noticed a huge dent in the back right corner. I examined the dent and noticed that the seam was not broken and moisture could not get in, so I decided to just keep it. I filled it with dog food. The door is very light and easy to move, however, my dog would not push it open with her head to eat. If I held the door open she would eat, but if I started to ease the door down against her head, she would back away. I finally had to prop the door open with a stick so the dog would eat. I'm glad I only ordered one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish I would have bought sooner! Smaller Colonel food flows much better. Wished I would have gotten this a year ago so I wasn't continually filling bowls for my three hundred-pound Rottweilers. Even being that size the door flap frightens them because of the sound it makes so I velcroed the door to remain open. Not an issue with other animals due to it being in a garage.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hungry dog!!! Will not fall down. Full of smaller size feed and will not fall down. We have to literally pull the feed down every day. It defeats the point of a feeder w my pyrnees in with sheep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Training dogs to use feeder These feeders work great. I have both the 25 lb and 50 lb sizes. However, some dogs take to them faster than other dogs. For those dogs that need more training time, start by propping up the swinging dog and make sure it is tight. Once the dog gets used to reaching into the feeder, take the props out and put something the dog likes as a treat on top of the regular dog food near the edge where the door opens. Continue to give the dog treats until comfortable with pushing open the swinging door without the treats. I did have one dog who would not eat out of the feeder, but have had five other dogs who had no problem at all. I am currently training a sixth dog who weighs 90 pounds to use the 50 lb feeder. He is doing well, but we had a set back when the propped door came down unexpectedly. Most of my dogs just figured it out themselves.

Anyone used this to feed pigs? Or is too light of gauge to survive that?

Asked by: JDMXLT
We would not recommend using this product to feed pigs.

How do I train the dogs to use it.

Asked by: pierres
Remove all food from the area. When the dogs get hungry they will tend to figure it out on their own. If necessary, you can prop open the container for the first few feedings.

I am building an outdoor pin with fencing. Will this hang on the fence?

Asked by: buddyman can
There are two small holes on the back of the unit so that it can be hung on screws. It is normally hung on screws secured in a wall, but as long as your fence can support the weight of feeder and food it would be possible with the proper hardware (mounting hardware not included with this item).

How or what do I need to mount this onto the side of a building off the ground a little bit?

Asked by: AmyD251
You will want to use a Tapcom screw. There are two little spots on the back of this product that you can place the screw through.

Will it handle "flow down" for very large kibbles? We switched to royal canan Lab on vet advice(treat size) and the current large feeder we have like this will not let the large kibble fall unless we actually get down and dig them down from the upper bin.

Asked by: Mary54
According to the manufacturer, it should be fine also long as there is an inch and half gap between the food and the bottom. As long as the food does not get clogged in the bottom the dog should not have a problem getting to the food.

When it says "pest" does this include ants or will I need to place bottom container in water to keep them out .

Asked by: Kathy815
The door will not keep the ants out of the item but there are holes in the back for you to hang the feeder to a wall which helps prevent ants from getting in the food.
