The G0885 5 in. Portable Metal-Cutting Bandsaw has 4-3/4 in. round and 5 in. x 4-3/4 in. rectangular cutting capacities. The powerful 1/2 HP motor makes short work of wrought iron, rectangular steel tubing with a heavy wall thickness, or solid aluminum block, making it perfect for any ferrous and non-ferrous metals you might use for basic fabrication at the job site. The compact, 5 in. Portable Metal-Cutting Bandsaw offers smooth variable-speed adjustability with speeds from 100 to 260 FPM, so you can easily adjust operation to make the best possible cut for any material without excessive wear on your blade. Electronic load sensing increases torque output to maintain constant blade speed, and advanced thermal overload protection with soft-start feature protects the motor. The handle with On/Off trigger switch provides easy leverage and cut control, and the built-in vise holds your workpiece firmly. The swing away stop rod allows for repeated, accurate cuts up to 10 in.

    Quality purchase

I am very happy with the bandsaw. It’s portable and cuts surprisingly straight. Great value. I would recommend it to anybody looking to fit a bandsaw in a smaller shop. A few things I’d improve would be providing a more precise knob for SFM and a slightly larger vise, since the throat of the bandsaw can support stock wider than 5”.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Excellent Quality & User Friendly

I wish I would have bought this saw years ago. It's very well built - Great Quality! It picks up speed when it's put under a load. So easy to adjust and use. I'll never be without one of these ever again. I have it sitting on my workbench now where it will stay. I can't say enough about it.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Great table top tool!!

I'm a serious DIYer with a small shop who does crazy wood and metal projects such as building a backhoe for my garden tractor. I used the following metal cutting saws - abrasive cutoff, cold cut circular, portaband, and floor model horizontal bandsaw - before buying this one 2 years ago. I wish I had found before trying the others. It is well constructed (okay - the handles are plastic but I have had no problems with that), came well packed and cut true right out of the box. The original blade may be a little for some users but I jump between steel, aluminum and wood, so I change blades accoringly and the coarser blade works great when cutting thicker aluminum. In addition to the quality build and accuracy there are two features that I absolutely love about ithis saw. Though sturdy in weight, it is light enough and small enough to store on a shelf when not in use. Floor space use was the main reason for selling the floor model horizontal saw The other reason was the abllity to turn the saw easily into a vertical bandsaw. This was mentioned by another reviewer and was the main reason I bought the Grizzly tabletop/portable instead of the competition. In order to make it a vertical saw I: (1) removed the extension spring and stop pin, (2) replaced the spring anchoring bracket on the "handle" part of the saw with a small tie rod end, (3) ran a smooth rod through the tie rod end and fastened it with a machine screw to the spring mounting hole on the "base" of the saw. (4) put a compression spring on the outside of the tie rod end and after some trial and error fastened it in place. Thus I switch it from an extesion spring to a compression spring. I have the tension set so the saw handle remains wherever I put it. This setup also allows the saw to be positioned past 90 degrees vertical and remain there. CAUTION: front of the saw must be clamped to do this or the saw tips rearward. I made a table for the vertical saw by cutting a piece of 2x3 inch steel tube long enough to fit in the majority of the material holding clamp and out past the saw blade. With the saw tipped vertical I found a couple pieces of square tubing the were slightly higher than the lower blade guide rollers and welded them to the top of the 2x3 tube. Then I laid a piece of plate on top, cut a groove and welded it in place. This setup takes seconds - literally - to go from horizontal to vertical and back. Great feature for me especially when doing small parts. Hope you find this helpful
