Q: I’ve heard rumor that DuMor has no added lysine in their grain. We buy the organic and I do not see it listed in the ingredients. I thought chickens need it in their feed? My hens have pretty much stopped laying. Could this be why?

- A: According to our feed formulator, the addition of lysine is not allowed in organic feeds. Grains and oilseeds contain natural amounts of lysine, and the feed is balanced for optimal lysine inclusion which should be sufficient for egg laying in adult chickens. The Lysine minimum amount is stated on the guaranteed analysis. Side note: Depending on where the customer lives, the amount of light (lack thereof) that the chicken gets daily is the most common cause of not laying eggs.3 years agoHelpful?

This time, not so great.

Unfortunately, I can not give this purchase a favorable review. For some time, whether it is in this store or from the manufacturer, the chicken feed has had an infestation of small moths and weevils. Usually it is not too bad, this time it was. The moth problem can be solved by placing the bag of feed in a freezer for a few days, We purchased several bags and can only do one at a time in the freezer. After the turn in the freezer the moths were killed but evidence of the infestation was very evident, with dead moths, larvae and clumps of feed held together with moth silk or whatever they use in the life cycle. The moths also destroy a lot of the feed so there was quite a bit of millings (broken down feed). Also consider the waste products of the bugs in the feed, making it less than optimal as feed. To be honest, I opened a new bag today and it appears to be fine. Should I have returned the feed, maybe, but one doesn't know the extent of the problem until the bags are opened. So far 3 out of 6 or 7 bags were bad, one is fine. It has happened in the past, but not to this extent. From now on every bag of feed from TS goes into the freezer.
