Q: Can this be used for silkies if I add oyster shells?

1 Answer
  • A: DuMOR Meat Bird is not labeled for use in layer chickens, and is only intended for raising broiler chickens. Feeding this product would be off-label and you would be choosing to do that at your own risk and to the risk of your silkies. If your silkies are growing, then there is no reason to add oyster shell to a starter feed. If your silkies are laying eggs, then they would be better served by being offered a complete layer feed to ensure that they are getting the proper nutrition to supporting egg production

Q: Nutrition values are on par with Coturnix quail high protein requirements. Other feeds/brands protein is too low or calcium too high for all around breeding, egg laying, occasional meat birds. Would you recommend this as a good feed for that purpose?

1 Answer
  • A: We would not recommend DuMOR Meat Bird for your quail. For starting the birds, we recommend Purina Game Bird Starter. Feed that for 6 weeks. When the birds start laying eggs at 6 weeks, then switch them to Purina Game Bird Layer. When the females stop laying eggs, then switch them to Purina Game Bird Flight Conditioner. Male birds should be switched from the starter feed to Purina Game Bird Flight Conditioner at 6 weeks. The males can remain on this feed their entire life. If you don’t want to feed a separate diet to the males and females, then feed everyone Purina Game Bird Flight Conditioner and offer a separate feeder with oyster shell (small particles) for the hens to get the extra calcium that they need for egg production.

Q: Would this be ok as part of a treat mix with equal parts black oil sunflower seeds and dried soldier fly larvae for guinea fowl?

1 Answer
  • A: As a treat mix or a supplement, your mix would be fine for guinea fowl. We recommend keeping the treats to about 10% of their daily intake or roughly 2 tablespoons of this mix per bird per day. DuMOR Meat Bird Poultry feed should not be the main source of nutrition for the guinea fowl.

Q: Do my chickens still need oyter shells or grit with this feed?

1 Answer
  • A: Meat Bird is a complete feed for raising broiler chickens. There is no need to add oyster shell or grit to their diet. Oyster shell is typically only offered to laying hens, which are different from meat birds or broiler chickens. Grit is not necessary to feed to any birds of any type or age.

Q: Can this feed be used for meat turkey or just broilers?

1 Answer
  • A: You could in certain situations. The turkeys should be on a turkey or game bird starter for the first 8 weeks, and then you could transition them to this product for another 4 to 6 weeks, and then you could transition the birds to a 20% protein feed for turkeys. One word of caution is that the meat bird product is crumbled, and an 8-week-old turkey will do better on a pelleted feed. Turkeys don’t do as well on a crumbled feed; their beaks are too large to pick up those tiny pieces very well. Young turkey poults will eat the crumble, but as they grow, pellets are a better option than a crumbled feed

Great quality at a affordable price

I’ve been using meat bird for around three years now, and have been having great success with the extra protein it prevents problems like feather picking and the chicks eat it very well it has been one of the best investments for growing out young chicks. I would highly recommend this product to anyone starting out with chicks just to keep from having problems in the beginning,

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great products

They have the feed we need for our chickens from when they are chick to adult. Their starter is the perfect crumble for the chicks with the extra protein for them to grow healthy and strong. Then followed by the layer feed pellets are the perfect size not to small and not too big it helps them to produce great quality eggs. The nutrients in both feeds are easily absorbed and easy for them to digest. They are happy active chicks to adulthood. Would recommend Tractor Supply to family and friends with a small flock or any size flock.
