If you want them to lay fertilized eggs and hatch more chicks, you should buy the unsexed chicks so you get a mix of males and females. If you just want unfertilized eggs, you should purchase all females. There isn't an exact ratio of males to females in the unsexed chicks, you would just receive a random assortment. If you're hoping to purchase just 1 male, I would suggest purchasing the females and then reaching out to Hoover's Hatchery. A: Our chicks are hatched and shipped the same day. When chicks hatch, they are still absorbing the internal yolk sac that they gained energy from inside the egg, and they continue to do that for the first 2 days of life. This allows the mother hen to keep sitting on the rest of the eggs allowing them time they need to hatch as well. And just happens to work out well for shipping chicks - since it takes about 2 days for chicks to be shipped via USPS mail. We include a nice cozy nest pad and a sheet of insulation under that to keep their body heat in with the chicks in the snug box that we send them in to keep them safe and close. Our Fulfillment and Logistics' team keep a close eye on the weather all over the United States. They make adjustments to the boxes based on the weather, with heavier winter boxes, foam lining for the bottoms of boxes under the nest pad and foam rings for insulation in cold inclement weather. They don't get feed and water, but we do send a scoop of Gro-Gel - a gelatin-like substance that provides moisture and nutrition to them that they peck at during their journey from us to their new home with you.
